POONCH: According to officials, security troops began a search operation in more than a dozen villages in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The villages are close to the Line of Control.
Prior to Independence Day, they added, increased security in the border villages is being implemented, including the joint operation by the Army and J&K Police in the Gursai area of the Mendhar subdivision.
Over a dozen villages, including Salwah, Sarooti, Gursai Top, Sanai, Keri Kanga, and Terkhara, were surrounded by security forces, and a search operation was started. The latest reports came in while the operation was still going on.
In the Jammu region, security has been stepped up to deter any terrorist attempts to sabotage Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
In order to prevent any terrorist attacks, Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Jammu Zone), advocated for “offensive operations” on August 9 during a high-level joint security meeting in Jammu, particularly in the Rajouri-Poonch and Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban ranges.
Additionally, a high degree of alertness was to be maintained, and border and highway security were to be strengthened.
