Major theft case worked out; stolen jewellery worth Rs 21 lakh recovered, 3 held

JAMMU, May 29: In a major breakthrough, police in Digiana area here have successfully solved a high-value theft case, arresting three individuals for their alleged involvement in the crime and recovering stolen gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 21 lakh from their possession.Five other persons were arrested by police in Bathindi area for allegedly assaulting a youth in the area and later uploading the posts of the attack on the social media.
Addressing media persons here today, SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma said that the theft case came to light on May 9, when one Gurjeet Kour, a resident of Preet Nagar, Jammu, reported that her house had been burgled during the intervening night of May 7-8.
According to him, the victim informed the police that unknown thieves had stolen several valuable jewellery items from her house.
Acting on the complaint, the police officer said a case FIR number 113/2025 under sections 331(2), 331(4), and 305 BNS was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
Accordingly, he said, a special investigation team was formed, which used a combination of technical surveillance and ground-level intelligence to trace the culprits.
After thorough efforts, the police officer said, the police detained three suspects, including a minor identified as Safar Ansari (23), originally from Khodaganj, Kishanganj, Bihar, presently living near the CRPF Camp in Gangyal, and Ibrahim (25), hailing from Singarao, Behraich, Uttar Pradesh, also residing in KC Colony, Gangyal.
He said during interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime.
Based on their disclosure, police recovered the stolen jewellery, which included one gold choker set, two kitty sets, a gold locket set, two ladies’ kadas, four gold bangles, a pair of diamond ear tops, a gold locket, a pair of earrings and three individual tops, three ladies’ rings, and two gents’ rings, the SP Jammu South said.
He added that the investigation is still ongoing as more recoveries or arrests in connection with the case cannot be ruled out.
Pertinently, the investigation was carried out by a team of PSI Sanjeev Sharma, incharge Police Post Digiana, under the supervision of SDPO City South, Sunil Singh Jasrotia, and SHO Gandhi Nagar, Arun Sharma.
Meanwhile, the SP Jammu South said that Police in Bathindi area have arrested five persons, two recently, for thrashing a youth in Bathindi area on February 18 and later uploading the posts of the attack on social media.
He said while three people identified as Mohammad Arif of Ghati, Kathua, Mohammad Ibrar Choudhary and Mohammad Abdullah of Bhallessa, Gandoh, Doda were arrested earlier, two key conspirators in the attack, identified as Mukhtiyar Ahmad and Mohammad Usman were arrested recently.
According to the police officer, the efforts are still on to arrest the mastermind of the attack, who is still at large.
