KUPWARA: Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, commander of the Chinar Corps, visited the frontline unit in the Machil sector close to the line of control on Tuesday to assess operational readiness and the counter-infiltration grid in the Kupwara area of Jammu and Kashmir, according to a statement from the Chinar Corps of the Army. “ChinarCorps Cdr visited the frontline unit along the LoC in Machil, Kupwara to review the Counter Infiltration Grid and Operational Preparedness and complimented them for the successful conduct of Op Gucchinar at Machhal on September 29-30 where two infiltrating terrorists were eliminated & large quantity of war-like stores recovered,” China Corps posted on microblogging site, X.This happened a few days after security forces killed two militants in the Machil region during an intelligence-based operation. The Indian military and the Jammu and Kashmir Police collaborated to thwart an infiltration attempt in the Machil region of the Kupwara district, according to an earlier statement from the Army on Saturday evening. After the intelligence-based operation, the forces conducted a sweep of the area and found the bodies of the two terrorists. In addition, two AK series rifles and ammo were also found at the scene, according to the Army. “The ambush party maintained perfect tactical surprise, and a gunfight was ensured where terrorists attempted to cross the LOC while hiding behind thick vegetation, however the firefight resulted in the instantaneous death of one terrorist. The second terrorist was later neutralised in the subsequent gunfight, it was added. The statement read, “During a search of the area, the bodies of two terrorists were recovered.” According to the statement, additional searches turned up two AK Series rifles, 90 rounds of AK ammo, a pistol, two hand grenades, 2,100 Pakistani rupees in cash, winter clothes, war supplies, and other items.The Army stated in its statement that “the operation is ongoing.”
