SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Amid dense fog and low visibility the flight operation at the Srinagar International Airport was affected for the second day on Sunday, an officials said.
However, the train services and traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway has resumed today after heavy snowfall disconnected the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country on Saturday.“The dense fog at the Srinagar International Airport reduced the visibility and forced some incoming flights to divert while just one flight from Delhi could manage to land at the airport this morning”, Director Srinagar International Airport Javed Anjum told UNI.
He said, “we are hopeful that the visibility will improve, and the normal flight operation will resume during the day”.
On Saturday the heavy snowfall led to the cancellation of 80 percent of flights from the Srinagar International airport.
The Rail service which also remained suspended on Saturday due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir valley was resumed today, a Railway official said.
“The trains will chug on the tracks with a minimum speed amid snow accumulation and are likely to delay”, he said.
Meanwhile, traffic on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been resumed after remaining suspended for the past two days due to snowfall.
“Passenger traffic plying on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on both sides”, a traffic police official said.
He said the commuters have been advised to follow the lane discipline as the road between Banihal and Qazigund is slippery due to snowfall, a traffic police official said.
“Mughal Road connecting Shopian district of south Kashmir with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu division, Sinthan Road connecting south Kashmir, Sonamarg-Kargil Road connecting Ladakh and Bhaderwah-Chamba Road remain closed due to snow accumulation,” they added.
