JAMMU: Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and held wide-ranging discussions on the current political and security scenario in the Union Territory.
He also briefed the Home Minister on the devastation caused by recent floods and submitted a comprehensive ground assessment report.
During the meeting, Sharma underlined the need to maintain peace and stability in J&K through effective governance, strengthening of democratic institutions, and ensuring people’s participation in development. He also raised concerns on internal security, emphasizing coordinated efforts to counter emerging challenges and safeguard the interests of citizens.
Sharing his observations from flood-affected areas, Sharma detailed widespread damage to roads, schools, healthcare facilities, homes, crops, and displacement of families. He stressed the urgent requirement for a coordinated relief and rehabilitation programme, alongside long-term climate-resilient infrastructure, disaster response mechanisms, and early warning systems.
The BJP leader also apprised the Home Minister of relief initiatives being carried out by party cadres in affected regions.
Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah assured full support to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, reiterating the Union Government’s commitment to strengthening security, promoting political stability, and enhancing disaster preparedness in the UT.
Sunil Sharma expressed gratitude to the Home Minister for his visionary guidance and support, reaffirming the need for close Centre-UT coordination to ensure peace, stability, and timely relief for flood-hit communities.
