NEW DELHI, Feb 10: On Saturday, the Lok Sabha began debating the building of a Ram temple in Ayodhya in the midst of DMK members’ protests over a matter pertaining to Tamil Nadu fishermen. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Satya Pal Singh opened the discussion on “the construction of historic Shri Ram Temple and Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala” by stating that Lord Ram belongs to everyone, not only Hindus. Additionally, he charged that the Congress was doubting Ram’s existence, which incited a stern response from the opposition benches. Singh claimed that the building of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya was historic. The former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer emphasised that, contrary to popular belief, there is nothing “communal” about the shrine.
