New Delhi, Sep 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that the old Parliament building’s “every brick” had been honoured and that the lawmakers would enter the new structure with “new hope and confidence.” In his more than hour-long speech to the Lok Sabha, Modi reflected on the development of India’s democracy and argued that the final day in this historic structure should be devoted to the more than 7,500 legislators who have worked there since India’s independence. On the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi on Tuesday, the legislature will relocate to the new building.“We have a chance to connect with the past today. With optimism for the future, we are departing this structure. The prime minister stated, “I am convinced that once we enter the new Parliament building, we will go there with new hope and confidence. “Today is a day to honour the 7,500 MPs who have served in this country… I honour each and every brick in this structure,” he remarked. In order to emphasise the historic significance of the old Parliament Building, Prime Minister Modi reminded that although foreign monarchs authorised its construction, Indians provided the sweat, labour, and funds. “Today, we are departing from this grand structure. This was the Imperial Legislative Council building before Independence, and it became the Parliament building after Independence’, he remarked. “We may visit the new structure, but future generations will also be inspired by the old structure. This is a crucial phase in India’s development, Modi stated. (Agencies)
