Srinagar, Dec 17 : Three militants involved in the December 9 attack on a police constable in Bemina were taken into custody after police in Srinagar busted a militant module that was out to kill police officers who were not on duty. At a press conference held today at the Police Control Room (PCR) in this location, Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain stated that following extensive investigations and impenetrable evidence, police had determined that three individuals were responsible for the attack: Danish Ahmed Mala Sector A, Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina; Mehnan Khan, son of Mehraj Din Khan of Khawajapora, Rainawari; and Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday, son of Taria Ahmed Khanday, Hamdaniya Coloney Sect A, Bemina.“FIR number 112/23 has been registered in Police Station Bemina under Section 7/27 307, IPC 16, 18, and 38 ULAP,” he stated in this regard. According to the DGP, the three were working for Pulwama-born handler Hamza-Burhan, who is based in Pakistan.Danish Malla, the mastermind among the three terrorists, devised a plan to attack Muhammad Hafiz Chak, a police constable who was returning home on December 9 after doing his duty. Six bullets were fired at him; two went through, and one struck his spine, which the physicians had to remove. “The constable who was injured is stable,” he said. At Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday had fired at the constable Hafiz. He said that Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday produced the weapon of offense—a Canik TP09 pistol made in Turkey—as well as one magazine and one 9 mm round during questioning.Seven rounds, one magazine, and a second CanikTP09 pistol manufactured in Turkey were taken from Mehnan Khan. Two magazines and fifty-seven 9mm rounds were found from Danish Mall, the speaker added, mentioning the terrorists’ ties to Lashkar-e-Toiba/TRF. According to the police chief, the trio that was arrested had prepared a long list of police officers that they intended to target during the course of their investigations. “While there were other people on the list as well, police officers made up the majority of the targets,” he said.According to Swain, additional weapons, including CanikTP09 pistols, are being dropped from drones and forcefully entered J&K. He continued, “Such weapons are easy to carry because of their light weight.” When asked if there was a link between the module and the death of police inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani, who was attacked on October 29 while playing cricket at Eidgah in Srinagar, the DGP replied that the National Investigation Agency was looking into the matter. He applauded police for their thorough investigation and successful prosecution of the accused in the Bemina cop attack case.
