JAMMU: Taking stern action to improve civic amenities, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav on Saturday chaired a review meeting of the Electrical Wing to assess the status of repair and maintenance of street lights across the city.
During the meeting, the Commissioner expressed serious concern over non-functional street lights reported from various areas of Jammu. He ordered the suspension of three employees from the street light repair wing for negligence and attached them to the Kot Bhalwal dumping site until further orders.
Dr. Yadav underscored that street lighting is a vital element of urban infrastructure, directly impacting the safety and convenience of citizens. “Poorly lit streets not only inconvenience the public but also pose significant security risks, especially during late evening and night hours,” he said. The Commissioner directed officials of the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and the Executive Engineer (Electric), JMC, to ensure prompt redressal of complaints regarding dysfunctional street lights. He called for a robust monitoring mechanism, regular field inspections, and strict accountability of field staff. He further instructed that maintenance schedules must be strictly adhered to, with faulty lights repaired or replaced within a stipulated timeframe. “Citizens should not be made to wait for such a basic facility as functional street lighting,” he added.
Reiterating JMC’s commitment to strengthening civic services, Dr. Yadav urged all concerned departments to work in close coordination to improve service delivery and build greater public trust.
