Jammu, Feb 1: Over 200 cars were left stranded on Thursday when a landslip in the Ramban area forced the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. There were also other spots on the route where there was new snowfall. According to officials, the landslip occurred in the district’s Sherbibi sector, which also saw a lot of rain. Traffic police stated on X that “the road near Sherbibi on Jammu-Srinagar highway is damaged and restoration work is about to start.” The 270-kilometer highway, which is the only all-weather route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the nation, has over 200 vehicles trapped at various locations.They stated that although efforts are on to reopen the roadway for traffic, the Ramban-Banihal sector’s continuous rains are proving to be a challenge. Travellers were warned by the traffic police to stay off the route until the weather cleared and the road was safe to travel on.
