JAMMU, Nov 3: The government of Jammu and Kashmir prohibited its workers from taking part in protests or strikes in support of their demands on Friday. They also issued a warning that any employee discovered to be involved in such activities will face severe consequences. It has been reported, per an order, that certain employees are using strikes and protests to push for their goals. In reference to any issue concerning his or any other government employee’s service, the government has invoked Rule 20(ii) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1971. This rule prohibits government employees from participating in or aiding and abetting any form of strike. According to the judgement, the law’s provision is not only declarative in character and will undoubtedly have an impact if any such employee is discovered engaging in such behaviour. Therefore, as a major act of misbehaviour and indiscipline, “all Administrative Secretaries are requested to circulate these instructions to employees in their respective Department(s) to desist from all such uncalled for demonstrations and strikes.”It further stated that departments are under pressure to take severe disciplinary action against staff members who are discovered to have organised protests and strikes.
