IPS Officer Suspended For ‘Misbehaving’ With Woman In Goa Night Club

NEW DELHI, Aug 17: An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer assigned to Goa has been suspended by the Union home ministry following charges that he misbehaved with a woman at a nightclub there last week, according to official sources.
The order released on Wednesday stated that A Koan, an IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre from the 2009 batch, has been suspended “immediately” while departmental procedures against him are being considered.
According to reports, the order was given by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which oversees the cadre of IPS personnel, after receiving a preliminary investigation report from the Goa government.The officer would remain assigned to the state police headquarters and “shall not leave the headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority” while the suspension order was in effect, according to the statement.
The Goa government had already removed the deputy inspector general (DIG) rank officer of his duties and instructed him to report to the state director general of police (DGP).
Pramod Sawant, the chief minister, promised to take harsh action against the officer.

Vijai Sardesai, an MLA for the Goa Forward Party (GFP), has also brought up the issue in the state assembly.
