NEW DELHI, Oct 4: India won its best-ever total of 71 medals at the Hangzhou edition of the Asian Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday, “India shines brighter than ever before at the Asian Games.” The achievement, according to the prime minister, was a source of pride for the entire country. “At the Asian Games, India shines brighter than ever before! We are celebrating our best-ever medal total of 71, which is a monument to the unmatched commitment, tenacity, and competitive spirit of our competitors, he wrote in a post on X. “Every medal showcases a lifetime of arduous work and love. A proud moment for the whole country. Bravo to our athletes,” he continued.The Indian delegation in Hangzhou on Wednesday surpassed the previous edition’s medal total of 70 to win their best-ever total of medals at the Asian Games. The 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang saw India’s competitors return with 70 medals, including 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze, breaking their previous record. (Agencies)
