NEW DELHI: After a nearly two-month break, India has started offering electronic visa services to Canadian citizens again, according to sources on Wednesday. Following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims of the “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the June 18 killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, tensions between India and Canada erupted in September. In 2020, India classified Nijjar as a terrorist. Trudeau’s accusations were dismissed by India as “absurd” and “motivated”. A few days later, Ottawa was asked to reduce its diplomatic presence in India by New Delhi, which declared it was temporarily stopping the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens. Additionally, India had requested that Canada take strong action against terrorists and anti-Indian groups that are based there.
