New Delhi, Dec 28: In the past 24 hours, 692 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in India. Union Health Ministry data show that the total active caseload increased by four, to 4,097. Six deaths have been reported in the nation in the last 24 hours, according to official data. Two of these deaths have occurred in Maharashtra, and one each in Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, and West Bengal. With an increase of 702 cases in the last day, the total number of coronavirus cases in India since the outbreak in January 2020 is now 4,50,10,944. With six more deaths in the past day, the total number of deaths in India from COVID-19 cases is now 5,33,346. Delhi announced its first case of COVID-19 subvariant JN.1 on Wednesday.Delhi reports JN.1, a Sub-Variant of Omicron, in its first case. JN.1 and Omicron are two of the three samples that were sent for genome sequencing, according to Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. Notably, the Omicron subvariant known as BA.2.86, or Pirola, is the ancestor of the JN.1 sub-variant. Kerala was the site of the first case of the COVID-19 JN.1 variant. According to sources in the Health Ministry, 109 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant had been identified in India as of Wednesday. The World Health Organisation did stress that, according to available data, the overall risk posed by JN.1 is still low.In response to the unexpected spike in coronavirus cases across the nation, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has released guidelines for COVID-19 suspected or positive cases that will be reported at hospitals. The director of AIIMS Delhi met with the hospital’s heads of departments on Wednesday to discuss COVID-19 backup plans. Policies regarding COVID-19 testing, the locations to be assigned for positive patients, and their hospitalisation were deliberated during the meeting.
