Mumbai, Feb 13: On Tuesday, Ashok Chavan, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, announced his decision to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Chavan told reporters, “Today is the beginning of a new political career of mine,” following his resignation from the Congress on Monday. Son of former chief minister S B Chavan, Ashok Chavan (65), emphasised on Monday that he made the decision to leave the Congress on his own and declined to give any particular explanations for his decision. Days had passed since prominent Maharashtra Congress leader Baba Siddique and Milind Deora left the organisation.The Marathwada region’s Nanded district is home to Ashok Chavan. In addition, he led the state Congress from 2014 to 2019. In addition to serving as the previous MP for the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency, he represented the Bhokar assembly seat.
