WASHINGTON, Nov 30: According to Kissinger Associates Inc., Henry Kissinger, a controversial diplomat and Nobel Peace Prize recipient whose work for two presidents made a lasting impression on American foreign policy, passed away on Wednesday. According to Kissinger Associates, Kissinger passed away at home in Connecticut. Even after becoming 100 years old, Kissinger continued to be involved in public life. He gave testimony to a Senate committee regarding North Korea’s nuclear danger, attended White House meetings, and published a book on leadership styles. He unexpectedly travelled to Beijing in July 2023 to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. As secretary of state under Republican President Richard Nixon in the 1970s, he was involved in many of the decade’s historic international events. Because of the German-born Jewish refugee’s efforts, China opened up diplomatically, historic weapons control negotiations between the US and the USSR were held, Israel’s relations with its Arab neighbours were strengthened, and North Vietnam’s Paris Peace Accords were signed. After Nixon resigned in 1974, Kissinger’s influence as the principal creator of US foreign policy began to decline. Nevertheless, he remained a powerful diplomat under President Gerald Ford and expressed strong views for the remainder of his life.
