JAMMU: A top police officer announced on Saturday that a suspected hardcore criminal who had been included in more than a dozen FIRs during the previous three years had been detained. The officer claimed that his close friend was also detained. Both Bishnah residents Yakoob Ali alias Lambu and Sharief Ali were detained in Phallain Mandal. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu) Chandan Kohli, two sharp weapons were taken from them. He claimed that as the two perpetrators were driving in a car, the police set up special checkpoints at several sites and apprehended them. The cops subdued the couple despite being attacked with sharp weapons when they attempted to run after witnessing the checkpoints, the officer claimed.Kohli called Lambu’s arrest a “major success” and said that he is a well-known drug dealer and criminal. Between 2020 and 2023, 13 cases involving attempted murder, rioting, criminal intimidation, rape, kidnapping, criminal assault of government employees and police officers, firearms possession, and drug trafficking were filed against Lambu, his brother, and another associate at various police stations. Kohli claimed that in the past, when attempting to flee, Lambu had used firearms and sharp objects to attack police parties in Bishnah, Miran Sahib, and Bari Brahmana.
