New Delhi, Feb 5: Parliament was informed on Monday that around 11.48 million Permanent Account Numbers remain unlinked with biometric identity, despite the Government having collected over Rs 600 crore as a penalty for the delay in linking PAN with Aadhaar. In a written response to the Lok Sabha, State Minister for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated, “As of January 29, 2024, the number of PANs not linked with Aadhaar, excluding exempted categories, is 11.48 crore.”In response to a query about how much money the government made after June 30, 2023, from those who had not linked their PAN and Aadhaar, Chaudhary stated that “the total collection of fee from persons who have not linked their PAN with Aadhaar is Rs 601.97 crore from July 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024.” June 30, 2023, was the deadline for integrating PAN with Aadhaar biometrics. According to the Income Tax authorities, PANs of taxpayers who have neglected to notify Aadhaar would stop working on July 1, 2023, and no refunds will be issued against them. Moreover, a greater rate of TDS and TCS deduction and collection will apply.By paying a Rs 1,000 late fee, the PAN can be activated once again.
