SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has authorised an investigation into a car hire scam involving 10 police officers, including a Senior Superintendent of Police, for the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar. According to reports, the government approved the Crime Branch of Police’s investigation against 10 police officers for their alleged involvement in a car hire scheme under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Along with SI Nisar Ahmad, SSP Zubair Ahmad Khan, ASP Farhat Jeelani, DySP Mushtaq Ahmad, Head Constables Abdul Rashid and Fareed Ahmad, and Constables Bilal Ahmad, Najamul Gani, Syed Tasweer, and Tawseef Ahmad are among those accused. In July of this year, police asked the government for permission to conduct a Crime Branch investigation into these officials in accordance with the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.According to an official, the swindle entails indicating that more private automobiles were hired than actually existed for the purpose of transporting security forces for the PCR in official records. According to reports, several of the vehicles were even fueled without a valid ticket from the petrol station but were never used for security duty. According to additional reports, a preliminary investigation against the authorities has been ongoing for several months, costing the state exchequer money. According to sources, the police department only requested punishment when it was proven that fraud had been committed in the hiring of vehicles. In a report published earlier in 2014, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) revealed that PCR officials had paid Rs 4.04 crore for the use of buses, trucks, and light motor vehicles during the Parliamentary and Assembly elections, even though these vehicles were either nonexistent or registered as scooters, motorbikes, non-commercial vehicles, small cars, tractors, and bulldozers.
