Fuel Stations Go Dry In Jammu As Transporters Strike On Centre’s New Law On Hit & Run Cases

Jammu, Jan 2: People in Jammu are suffering as result of multiple petrol stations going dry due to the transporters’ walkout against new Central government law regarding hit-and-run incidents. Under the auspices of the All J&K Transporters Association, transporters from several districts in the Jammu region staged protests calling for the repeal of the new law. “Every citizen should be subject to the law. Why, in hit-and-run incidents, are only commercial vehicle drivers subject to severe penalties and hefty fines? asked the leader of the transporters union. He suggested that the government change the law in response to request. Due to the tankers’ refusal to supply fuel, several filling stations went dry during the strike.There was massive rush of people waiting in queue for fuel at few petrol pumps. The transporters protested at the entrance to Jammu and Kashmir, Lakhanpur, in the Kathua district. (Agencies)
