Jammu, June 11: A fire broke out inside the lobby area of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly complex today, causing significant damage to property.Official sources said the blaze erupted in the lobby of the old Assembly building, where several photographs of former Governors and Lieutenant Governors were displayed.
These photographs were among the items destroyed in the fire, they said.
The flames also gutted several sofas, chairs, and other infrastructure, reportedly worth lakhs of rupees, sources said.They said the Fire and Emergency services rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after hectic efforts.
Though the cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, preliminary reports suggest it could be due to a short circuit, sources said.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause.
