SRINAGAR, Jan 5: A fire broke out in Srinagar’s Rajouri Kadal area on Saturday night, causing extensive damage to a residential-cum-commercial complex and leaving two firemen injured, officials said.
The blaze severely damaged a structure comprising seven shops on the ground floor and a residential unit on the first floor. Additionally, a nearby mosque sustained minor damage due to the incident.
As soon as the fire broke out, several fire tenders were rushed from the city centre to the spot to douse the leaping flames.
Two firemen identified as Mohammad Ishaq and Shakeel Ahmad received burn injuries during the firefighting operation and were promptly shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable, they said.
The cause of ire is being ascertained, they said.
