Farooq asks if Govt can remove names of Sheikh Abdullah, Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi from history

SRINAGAR: Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference, stated on Sunday that changing the titles of institutions that bear Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah’s names will not make them disappear from history. “By changing names, they (the government) cannot alter history. Can Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Jawahar Lal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi be wiped off the history books? How would the Mughals be eliminated from history if they removed the chapters on Mughal rule from textbooks? Informed Farooq Abdullah.”My children and your children will inquire about the Taj Mahal’s builder when they visit. He questioned, “What will they say?” The Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar responded when asked about renaming infrastructure projects after NC founder and his father Sheikh Abdullah, saying, “Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah lives in the hearts of the people. He cannot be taken out of that place. The Kashmir International Convention Centre no longer uses the moniker “Sher,” which Sheikh Abdullah is most often known by. With effect from August 14, Delhi’s Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has been formally renamed as the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society. Farooq Abdullah, a former chief minister of the former Jammu and Kashmir state, responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claim that China is occupying Indian land in Ladakh by saying he is aware that the Chinese “are sitting on our land.” “You ask Rahul Gandhi for this. Nothing similar has been expressed by Farooq Abdullah. But I am aware that they are occupying our property. There have been 19 rounds of negotiations thus far; as for when they will resume, I don’t know,” he continued.
