NEW DELHI, Feb 7: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was summoned by a Delhi court on Wednesday, February 17, in response to a charge brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against him for failing to appear at the court’s summons in a money-laundering case involving the now-cancelled excise policy for the nation’s capital. “A summons to appear on February 17 has been issued to him in recognition of the complaint,” Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra stated. Following the ED’s submission that it had finished its arguments in the case, the judge had reserved the order. On February 3, the ED brought a new charge against Mr. Kejriwal for failing to respond to its summons.On Friday, Mr. Kejriwal disregarded the fifth summons that the ED had sent him. He received the summons from the agency last Wednesday. In a previous letter to the ED, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called the summonses “illegal and politically motivated.” He had claimed that the summonses were sent to keep him from participating in election campaigning.
