NEW DELHI, Jun 13: According to sources, the CBI detained an enforcement officer with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) who was reportedly accepting a Rs. 12 lakh bribe to settle a penalty against a hospital manager. They said that Rishi Raj, an employee of the EPFO’s East Regional Office, was caught by the CBI in the act.According to them, the action was initiated as a result of a complaint made by the multi-specialty hospital manager in the nation’s capital.”It was alleged that the accused (Raj) conducted an inspection of a Multi Speciality Hospital in Delhi and informed the Complainant (working as the hospital’s manager) that there were numerous irregularities in the hospital’s records for which a penalty of approximately Rs 15 crore would be imposed on the hospital,” a CBI Spokesperson said here.Raj allegedly wanted a bribe of 20% of the fine to settle the case, which was eventually reduced to Rs 12 lakh. “The accused was captured in the act of seeking and accepting a Rs. 12 lakh bribe after a trap was created. The spokeswoman stated that searches were done on the accused’s property.
