New Delhi, Oct 23: The Indian Army expressed sympathy for the bereaved family of Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman on Sunday and attempted to dispel any confusion over the next of kin’s compensation by stating that it is “governed by the relevant terms & conditions of service of the soldier.” The Army said on its X account on Sunday that Agniveer Laxman died while performing his duties in Siachen.“In view of conflicting messages on social media regarding financial assistance to the Next of Kin of the deceased, it was important to clarify that emoluments due to the Next of Kin were governed by the relevant terms and conditions of service of the soldier,” said the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), IHQ of the Ministry of Defence (Army).The non-contributory insurance sum of Rs 48 lakh is the amount of emoluments permitted for a deceased battle casualty, in accordance with the rules of engagement of Agniveers. Agniveer (30%) contributed Seva Nidhi, and the government matched it with an equivalent amount plus interest. Amount ex parted: Rs 44 lakh. Payment of the remaining duration from the date of death until the four-year period is finished (in this case, more than Rs 13 lakh). an 8-lakh rupee contribution from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund. immediate financial support from the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) in the amount of Rs 30,000, the ADG PI wrote.The Army honoured the deceased Agniveer, an operator who perished in the Siachen glacier’s terrain, earlier on Sunday. The Army’s Fire and Fury Corps expressed its sympathies to the family on X, writing, “Quartered in snow silent to remain, they shall rise and march again when the bugle calls.” The whole Fire and Fury Corps salutes Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman’s supreme sacrifice made while performing his duty in the harsh Siachen mountains, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family.
