KATHUA: Dr Zahir Abbas resident of Janipur posted at Vijaypur hospital attacked junior nursing assistant, Rahul Kotwal resident of Doda who was posted at GMC Kathua and Vivek Sharma a resident of WNo 13, Kathua with sharp edged weapon inside GMC Kathua on Thursday inflicting serious injuries on them.
Both injured were admitted in GMC Kathua where Rahul Kotwal was immediately referred to a private Hospital in Punjab in a critical condition while Vivek Sharma is undergoing treatment in GMC Kathua.
The police arrested accused Dr Zahir Abbas on the spot and registered a case under Section 307 and other relevant section said SHO Kathua, Ajay Chib. He said the doctor is on four days police remand.
Taking a strong cognisance of the act the doctor and para medical staff went on strike on next day at GMC Kathua and demanded security of medical staff on duty. The MLA Kathua, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Principal GMC, Dr Surinder Attri also reached the spot and assured them to make arrangements for security of staff on duty to avert such acts in future.
Meanwhile a meeting of the Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation was held today under the chairmanship of Sushil Sudan president of the Federation and protested against the attack on GMC employee in Kathua.
The Federation demanded immediate medical treatment for the injured employee, implementation of round the clock security measures at GMC Kathua and enhanced safety protocols for all working employees.
When contacted Principal GMC Kathua, Dr Surinder Attri said that junior staff member is critical and he has been put on ventilator. He said the case has been taken up with administrative Department for the suspension of the doctor.
