JAMMU: Today’s meeting to assess the state of the de-silting and maintenance projects of the irrigation canals in the districts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua was presided over by Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Ramesh Kumar. Meeting attendees included Commissioner JMC, Deputy Commissioners from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Director of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Chief Engineers from Jammu for Irrigation & Flood Control, and representatives from the Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal, among others. The Divisional Commissioner conducted an inventory of the de-silting operations being carried out in the Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal and the Ranbir Canal. He asked the relevant authorities for specifics regarding the finished and ongoing irrigation canal cleaning and maintenance projects. The Divisional Commissioner urged the Executing agencies’ representatives to clean the canals promptly and well.The Divisional Commissioner emphasised the need for appropriate transportation and disposal of silt, sludge, and waste material recovered during the de-silting of the canals while reviewing the work being done by the department of irrigation and flood control. The Div Com gave the Chief Engineers instructions to work with the District Administrations to make sure that farmers have no problems with irrigation and that irrigation water reaches the ends of the canals. The Deputy Commissioners were instructed by the Division Committee to ensure that the de-silting and maintenance of the irrigation canals were properly monitored. The Div Com gave the concerned officials instructions to organise enforcement drives and awareness campaigns to encourage people to keep the canals clean and refrain from disposing of plastic or trash in them.JMC Commissioner The Divisional Commissioner was informed by Rahul Yadav about the cleanliness and beautification projects that were carried out along the Tawi Canal.
