DAC approves Village Sanitation Saturation Plan for Jammu

JAMMU: DC Jammu Avny Lavasa today chaired a meeting of the District Advisory Committee on Solid Waste Management to finalise the Village Sanitation Saturation Plan 2023-24 under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-G).The District Advisory Committee is presided over by the Deputy Commissioner. It was decided to designate Jammu District as an ODF+ model under SBM (G), along with the approval of the Village Sanitation Saturation Plan 2023–2024 for each of the district’s 20 blocks.The gathering was informed by Assistant Commissioner Panchayat on the various elements of the Village Sanitation Plan, including a suitable system for door-to-door trash collection facilities, the building of community compost pits/soak pits and the construction of an adequate number of segregation sheds. In addition, cluster-based plastic Waste Management units would be built to collect and completely dispose of waste produced in Jammu District’s rural areas.The proposed seven PWMUs will be built at Khour, Dansal, Bishnah, Mandal Phallain, RS Pura, Mardh, and Akhnoor for multiple blocks each using an inter-block cluster-based strategy. The meeting was attended by the State Pollution Control Board representatives, Yoginder S. Katoch, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Piyush Dhotra, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Preeti Sharma, Block Development Officers, Chief Education Officer, District Programme Officer, ICDS, and other officers.The Committee approved the Village Sanitation Saturation Plan 2023–24 after a lengthy discussion. The Chairperson instructed the involved officers to take all required action to finish the plan by the deadline.
