KUPWARA: In addition to retrieving weapons and ammunition, a cross-border terror module that was smuggling weapons and ammunition was busted in Kupwara, north Kashmir, police said on Saturday. Five terror associates were also arrested. Speaking on behalf of the police, a spokesman said that after receiving reliable information, the police and 9 Para Field Regiment busted the module that was smuggling different weapons and ammunition sent by two LeT terrorist handlers located in the PoK, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Qazi Mohammad Khushal, who are currently operating from across the border. According to the statement, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat was detained on the basis of this, and several pieces of evidence, including a magazine, an AK rifle, twenty AK rounds, two handguns, and magazines, have been found from him thus far. Preliminary investigations have shown that the two handlers from across had recently, via various means, been in contact with Zahoor, who lives in a village close to the LoC. “The consignments so dispatched to this side from across were thereafter delivered to other terror associates who were in contact with Zahoor and the handlers as well,” the report states.Four further terror associates—Khursheed Ahmad Rather, Mudassir Shafiq, Ghulam Sarwar Rather, and Qazi Fazal Illahi—have also been taken into custody on the basis of additional leads, and weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating materials have been found on them.” It further states that the matter is being thoroughly and quickly probed in order to uncover more information about the conspiracy involving the smuggling of weapons and ammunition.
