Criminal escapes police custody, 2 suspended

JAMMU: In less than a month, another criminal escaped from police custody from a court here in Jammu District. Taking cognisance of the matter, a PSI and a Havaldar posted at Nagrota Police Station have been placed under suspension and an SPO attached to District Police Line. A police officer said that Basharat Hussain of Thannamandi, Rajouri, was arrested by a team of Police Post Jagti as he was wanted in two cases of theft, one of them registered at PP Jagti. He said the criminal was presented in a court here where his custody was given to Nagrota Police Station. “The moment he exit the courtroom, the theft accused attacked and injured a police cop to escape from their custody on the bike of another person, who was already waiting for him,” he said. Accordingly, the senior police authorities have ordered suspension of PSI Mashkoor Giri, Havaldar Surinder Singh, and attachment of an SPO Mukesh Sharma to the DPL. Pertinently, an NDPS detainee, Balraj Singh of Sehora Tehsil, Amritsar, Punjab also escaped from the custody of police on March 22 this year when he was presented in a local court for seeking his custody.
