JAMMU: Three brothers are accused in a ₹43 lakh land scam in a 253-page chargesheet released by the Crime Branch‘s economic crimes unit on Saturday. According to an official spokesperson, they were accused of forming a criminal conspiracy and robbing a guy from Gandhi Nagar of ₹43 lakh. A case under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code was filed against them at the Crime Branch police station in Jammu. Manmohan Singh, the complainant, was tricked into signing a contract to sell the accused’s 51 marlas in Birpur, the Bari Brahmana neighbourhood of Samba.Following the transaction, the complainant’s special power of attorney was revoked by Birpur village residents Narayan Singh, Suram Singh, and Chain Singh. The plaintiff had been duped by the siblings into believing that the government would receive a substantial payment for the land it was acquiring. The complainant was persuaded to pay each of the accused ₹17 lakh by the accused. All defendants executed a selling agreement and a special power of attorney in December 2021. The accused then went to the Jammu collector of land acquisition and informed him that the complainant’s special power of attorney had been revoked and that the accused would get the money into their accounts from the collector.
