JAMMU: In the widely reported murder case of Sumedha Sharma, Dr. Johar Mehmood’s bail application was denied by Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjay Parihar on Wednesday. Sumedha Sharma’s body was found in his wounded state when it was recovered from the petitioner’s home. Investigation revealed that the petitioner was having an affair with the dead girl, who was enrolled in Indraprastha Dental College’s Post Graduation in Dental Sciences programme in Ghaziabad at the time. The deceased learned in December 2022 that the petitioner was unfaithful to her because he was seeing another woman. Following this, the deceased got in touch with the girl and requested that she stop dating the petitioner. “Grant of bail to the petitioner on health grounds appears to be imaginary, however, this does not prevent the petitioner/accused from moving a formal application requesting court to conduct enquiry that he is person of unsound mind, thus, incapable to defend” , the judge stated, adding that “until said application is made or enquiry conducted, he cannot be given benefit of bail merely at his asking when the material available on record and the conduct of the accused in jail nowhere show him that he is suffering from any kind of mental ailment” .
