Congress Delegation Meets LG Manoj Sinha, Pushes for Statehood Restoration

JAMMU: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Saturday met Manoj Sinha and strongly pressed for the early restoration of statehood, while highlighting several pressing issues affecting the Union Territory. The delegation, led by working president Raman Bhalla, called on the Lieutenant Governor at Raj Bhawan in Jammu.
During the meeting, Congress leaders raised concerns over the ongoing LPG shortage, demand for restoration of statehood, and the need for a comprehensive rehabilitation package for refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971. They also sought Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for these refugees.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Bhalla said the delegation urged the administration to expedite restoration of statehood and resolve the LPG crisis. He also referred to a rehabilitation package proposed during the tenure of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, which had recommended Rs 30 lakh per refugee family.

However, the leaders claimed that only Rs 5.5 lakh per family was sanctioned and that too has not been disbursed to all eligible beneficiaries. They demanded full implementation of the package and immediate release of pending funds.

The delegation also called for an additional LPG quota to meet rising demand due to increased tourism and pilgrimages in the region.Other issues raised included rising crime and drug abuse, with the party demanding enhanced recruitment and deployment of security personnel. The leaders also sought relief for flood-affected families, increased funding for urban development, and welfare measures for the Kashmiri migrant community.

Additionally, the Congress delegation urged the administration to address long-pending demands of daily wagers and contractual employees by introducing a special package and allocating dedicated funds for their regularisation.
