LUCKNOW, Feb 19: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took aim at the Congress, stating that the party thinks a single family has the right to the Bharat Ratna. At a groundbreaking ceremony for over 14,000 projects costing over Rs 10 lakh crore across the state, Modi was speaking to a crowd. “Our government had the honour of presenting Chaudhary Charan Singh, the farmer Messiah, with the Bharat Ratna just a few days ago. Paying tribute to Chaudhary Saheb, the descendant of Uttar Pradesh, is a privilege shared by millions of the nation’s labourers and farmers. However, he remarked, “Unfortunately, the Congress and its friends are unaware of this.“You must have observed how the Congressmen made it impossible to even bring up Chaudhary Saheb during the Parliamentary discussion of (name of) Chaudhary Charan Singh. The prime minister stated, “Congress people think that Bharat Ratna belongs to a single family.” He added that the Congress continued to award Bharat Ratna to members of their own families, even though Baba Saheb Ambedkar was not one of them for decades. In 1990, Ambedkar received the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously. “Because they do not exist in its thinking, the Congress does not want to respect the poor, Dalits, backward classes, farmers, and labourers,” Modi remarked. He stated that the Congress has made a concerted effort to negotiate with former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh ji even during his live. “Chaudhary Saheb resigned as prime minister, but he did not waver from his beliefs.” According to Modi, Chaudhary Charan Singh detested political wrangling, however it is regrettable that the Uttar Pradesh political parties operating under his name did not uphold the values of Chaudhary Saheb. The nation will never forget what Choudhary Saheb accomplished for small farmers, according to the prime minister. “We are consistently empowering the country’s farmers today, drawing inspiration from Chaudhary Saheb.”
