NEW DELHI, Feb 14: The Congress formally announced former party head Sonia Gandhi’s candidature from Rajasthan on Wednesday and nominated renowned attorney Abhishek Singhvi from Himachal Pradesh for the Rajya Sabha elections. Akhilesh Prasad Singh, the state chief of the party’s Bihar section, has also been renominated, according to a release. The statement included the names and stated, “Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of the following persons as Congress candidates to contest the biennial elections to the Council of States from the states.”The Maharashtra native Chandrakant Handore is the party’s nominee. In order to submit her nomination papers from Rajasthan, Sonia Gandhi is already in Jaipur. On February 27, there will be the biennial elections to fill the 56 Rajya Sabha seats. The deadline for submitting nominations is February 15th.
