NEW DELHI : General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, placed a wreath at the National War Memorial in the nation’s capital on Friday in honour of the 77th Infantry Day. Every year on October 27, the Indian army’s largest armoury observes Infantry Day to celebrate the sacrifices and services made by this unit. The Indian Army arrived in Budgam on October 27, 1947, in order to protect Kashmir from Pakistani intruders. Since then, this day has been observed as Infantry Day. It honours the ultimate sacrifice made by the troops who died defending the nation against the Pakistan Army’s invasion of Kashmir during its independence.Rajnath Singh, the Union Minister of Defence, greeted the Indian army earlier today in honour of Infantry Day. “Happy 77th Infantry Day, everyone serving in the Indian Army! Warm regards.” Singh posted on ‘X’, saying, “They are the embodiment of bravery, sacrifice, selfless devotion to duty, and professionalism.” “Let us remain undeterred in our commitment to preserve the integrity and sovereignty of our Nation” , he said. On this same day, General Manoj Pande also greeted the Indian Army.“On this 77th #InfantryDay, #GeneralManoj Pande #COAS and All Ranks of #IndianArmy extend best wishes to All Ranks, #Veterans and Families of the #Infantry,” the Indian Army stated in a post on ‘X,’ citing Pande. On Infantry Day, Union Minister and former Army Chief General VK Singh (Retd) also sent greetings to the military. “The Indian Army arrived in Budgam on October 27, 1947, to protect Kashmir from Pakistani intruders. #InfantryDay is observed on this day.
