SHOPIAN, JULY 29: Rafia Hassan Khaki, Chairperson, Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) who is also Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian today conducted an inspection of the Special Jail Pulwama to evaluate the living conditions and facilities available to the inmates.
This visit was undertaken in accordance with directives from the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the J&K Legal Services Authority (SLSA).
The Chairperson TLSC Shopian was accompanied by Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, Susheel Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; Additional Superintendent of Police Shopian, Shoukat Rafiq, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Shopian, Rafie Ahmad Gani, and Assistant LADC, Sumiya Paul during the inspection visit.
Khaki conducted a comprehensive review of the jail premises and interacted with inmates across various barracks, inquiring about their health, food and water quality, and access to legal representation.
She also inspected key facilities including the Video Conference Hall, Medical Clinic/Room, Legal Aid Clinic, Cooking Area, and washrooms.
In response to her observations, Khaki directed the ADC Shopian to allocate funds for the establishment of a Gym and a library within the jail premises. She emphasized the importance of recording and addressing the grievances of inmates, especially those with pending trials outside the district.
Khaki praised the efforts of the prison administration in providing vocational and educational training to inmates, highlighting its significance for their reintegration into society and commended the staff for their commitment to maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and the overall welfare of the inmates.
This visit underscores the commitment of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee to ensure the rights and well-being of inmates and improving the conditions of detention facilities in the region.
