JAMMU, May 23: The Crime Branch (CB) has arrested a suspended Government school teacher for cheating unemployed youth by promising them Government jobs in exchange of money.
A Crime Branch official said that Jameel Anjum of Ustad Mohalla Jammu, who has been arrested, already faces 10 FIRs registered by the Crime Branch Jammu and Jammu and Kashmir Police, for his involvement in multiple cases of fraud.
In the latest case, he said, the accused allegedly duped a complainant, Rashid Manhas of Gujjar Nagar, of Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold worth Rs 5 lakh by falsely promising him and his sister Government jobs and later handing them over fake appointment orders.
“The accused had claimed that jobs were available in the Excise, CAPD, and Education Departments for graduates from middle-class families without Government employees,” the Crime Branch official said.
Taking serious note of the complaint, he said, SSP Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh, formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a Deputy SP.
The investigation confirmed Anjum’s involvement, following which he was arrested and is currently being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the racket, he said.
According to the Crime Branch official, accused Anjum is a habitual offender with a history sheet and personal file already opened against him.
“He is currently under suspension from his Government post due to his repeated involvement in such crimes,” he said, adding, “While four of the ten registered cases against the accused have been challaned in the court, six are still under investigation.”
