Gill dethrones Pakistan’s Babar Azam to claim top spot in ICC ODI Rankings

NOV 08, 2023 : Babar Azam was the top-ranked ODI batter in the world until Shubman Gill of India's blistering run in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. On Wednesday, the Men in Blue opener overtook the skipper of Pakistan in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings. After an explosive start to India's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup campaign, Gill ascended to the top to dethrone Babar. He is now just the fourth player from his nation to hold the No. 1 ODI batter position, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni.The right-hander has amassed 219 runs from six innings at the event thus far in the ongoing campaign, scoring 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa. With eight knocks in the World Cup, the captain of Pakistan has accumulated 282 runs, ending his more than two-year reign as the world's best ODI batter. However, he is now six rating points behind Gill in second place. Virat Kohli, the previous captain, took fourth place in the rankings in the meantime. For the first time in his short but brilliant career, Gill is ranked #1, and Kohli's 543 World Cup runs propel him up three spots to fourth, one rating point ahead of South Africa's opener Quinton de Kock, who is ranked third. Among the ODI batsmen, it is noteworthy that India's Shreyas Iyer jumps from 17 to 18 overall, while Pakistan's opener Fakhar Zaman moves up three spaces to 11th and his Afghan counterpart Ibrahim Zadran moves up six spots to 12th. JAMMU: Para athletes Sheetal Devi, 16, and Rakesh Kumar, 16, were received and welcomed by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar today in Jammu. After earning medals at the recently finished Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the Para Athletes have returned. Despite all odds, Sheetal Devi—who was born without arms—became the first female armless champion archer in history.The Div Comm praised Sheetal Devi for her tenacity, resolve, and unbreakable character, which made her the first paraarcher without arms in history. He also praised Rakesh Kumar's efforts and accomplishments. He stated that the UT of J&K and the country are proud of the accomplishments of the paraathletes. Four detained for waving Palestinian flag during Pak-Bangla match in Kolkata

They had been flying the Palestinian flag. A senior police official stated, "We had detained them for waving the Palestinian flag near Gate 6 and Block G1 (during the match on Tuesday)." BCCI imposes 2yrs ban on J&K cricketer: JKCA

JAMMU:A cricket player from Jammu and Kashmir was banned on Saturday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), purportedly for submitting multiple birth certificates. In a press release released on Saturday, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said that Bishnah, Jammu resident and cricketer Vanshaj Sharma has been banned by the BCCI for submitting several birth certificates with different dates of birth. According to a release from Brig Anil Gupta Member Administration JKCA, "For this act, he has been banned from participating in all BCCI tournaments for a period of two years from October 27." Brig Gupta announced that the player would not be permitted to play in any age group BCCI competitions after serving a two-year ban and would only be eligible to compete in the Senior Men's Tournament run by the BCCl.The JKCA official went on to say that Vanshaj Sharma moved to another state in this particular circumstance and applied there to join the Bihar U-23 Men's squad. Brig Gupta clarified, however, that even though he had switched associations, he was still detected for presenting duplicate birth certificates because his data was accessible with the BCCI since he was initially registered by the JKCA in 2021–2022. "As a consequence of which he has been banned from participating in any tournament for two years and from participating in age group tournaments for the entire life," the handout stated.
