FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup: India beat Canada 12-0; Annu, Mumtaz, Deepika score hat-tricks

NOV 30, 2023 :The FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup 2023 campaign of the Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team got off to a dominant start on Wednesday, opening the competition in Santiago, Chile, with a 12-0 victory over Canada. India's goal scorers were Annu (4', 6', 39'), Dipi Monika Toppo (21'), Mumtaz Khan (26', 41', 54', 60'), Deepika Soreng (34', 50', 54'), and Neelam (45'). Annu (4', 6') scored two goals through penalty corners to give India an early lead. India started the game offensively, applying constant pressure on Canada. India continued to press Canada despite having a two-goal lead and continued to play aggressively; nevertheless, they were unable to score further goals in the first quarter, as the game finished 2-0 in their favour. India maintained their lead in the second quarter by maintaining the momentum from the first. They held the ball and kept breaking through the circle, which allowed Mumtaz Khan (26') and Dipi Monika Toppo (21') to each score a field goal, increasing India's lead even more. Canada was awarded a penalty corner in the interim, but they were unable to capitalise on it.The Indian squad had a comfortable 4-0 lead at the end of the second quarter. Even with a sizable lead, the Indian team did not show any signs of faltering in the third quarter, continuing to control the game. Annu (39') completed her hat-trick after Deepika Soreng (34') converted a penalty corner, and Mumtaz Khan (41') scored her second goal of the game. At the conclusion of the penultimate quarter, Neelam (45') also made it 8-0 for India with her effort from a penalty corner.With goals by Mumtaz Khan (54', 60') and Deepika Soreng (50', 54'), the Indian team's goal-scoring prowess continued into the fourth quarter, culminating in both players' hat-tricks and a 12-0 victory for India. Sheetal Devi becomes World No. 1 Para Archer

JAMMU: Sheetal Devi jumped up two spots to take the top spot in the para world archery rankings for the women's compound open category after winning two gold medals at the Para Asian Games. Rakesh Kumar, who won three gold medals at the just finished Para Asian Championship, has also seen improvement, rising two spots to take third place internationally. He is ranked lower than Matteo Bonacina of Italy and Nathan Macqueen of Great Britain. Sarita, another Indian para-archer, advanced significantly in the standings after winning a bronze medal at the Bangkok Asian Championships. In the most recent update, she moved up seven spots to claim the sixth spot, which is a significant improvement in her global ranking. The 16-year-old won the laurel and made history as the first Indian athlete to do so. Sheetal is the first female archer to compete internationally without the use of arms, according to World Para Archery. But she's not just competing. NEW DELHI: For the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, star all-arounder Hardik Pandya is expected to part ways with his present team, the Gujarat Titans (GT), and rejoin his old team, the Mumbai Indians, according to ESPNcricinfo. This all-cash deal includes the Mumbai-based team paying Titans an undisclosed transfer fee in addition to the 30-year-old's salary of 15 crore rupees. Hardik could receive as much as 50% of the transfer fee, per an ESPNcricinfo report. The transaction will be regarded as the largest player trade in IPL history if it is executed successfully. Neither franchise has officially announced it as of yet. Chain Singh wins 3 gold in national shooting Championship

JAMMU: In the national championship that was held in New Delhi, Indian shooter Chain Singh took home three gold medals. At the 66th National Shooting Championship in New Delhi, he took home three gold medals. He also set a new 50-meter rifle prone national record. Chain Singh is a native of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. He won the gold medal in the individual division of the 7th Asian Airgun Championship in Kuwait, the bronze medal in the men's 50-meter rifle three positions event at the 2014 Asian Games, and six gold medals in total—three in individual and three in team events—at the 2016 South Asian Games.
