Opposition dharna in Jammu to highlight public desire for restoration of democracy in J&K: Congress

JAMMU: Vikar Rasool Wani, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, stated on Sunday that the opposition parties' planned dharna here on October 10 is intended to convey the message that people desire the return of electoral democracy in the Union territory. Senior Congress officials were gathered at the Jammu headquarters of the party, and Wani addressed them there. He urged them to participate in the peaceful joint dharna that would likely take place in Maharaja Hari Singh Park. "A substantial number of leaders and employees will attend the protest, despite the fact that the dharna is merely symbolic and not a demonstration of force. The INDIA alliance's leadership will be summoned here later, he promised. The opposition parties, according to the Congress leader, arranged the demonstration during a recent meeting in order to emphasise their "burning issues" and to call for the quick restoration of democracy as well as the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "People are suffering under the bureaucratic regime for more than five years while the lieutenant governor is claiming that 80 per cent of people are happy with the present dispensation," he stated."In order to counter this kind of narrative, the united opposition through this peaceful dharna, wants to send a clear and loud message that the people of Jammu and Kashmir want early restoration of democracy and to have their elected government apart from other democratic and constitutional rights," he stated. According to Raman Bhalla, working president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, the populace wants panchayat and urban local body elections as well as immediate holding of the assembly elections and the restoration of the state's independence. He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be defeated and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (Centre) and the administration led by the lieutenant governor are purposefully not holding the assembly elections. LAHDC-Kargil elections: Congress leads with 7 seats, NC 5, BJP 2 as 5th round of counting over

KARGIL: At the conclusion of the fifth round of vote counting for the LAHDC-Kargil elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) is in the lead after obtaining seven council seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only managed to win two seats, while the National Conference (NC) won five seats. Additionally, one seat has been won by an independent candidate. The first municipal election in Ladakh since the area became a union territory separate from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 has drawn major attention, and it is going place amid strict security precautions.With victories in the Rambirpoa, Pashkum, Choskore, Chiktan, Taisuru, Baroo, and Parkachik seats, the INC's stellar performance has been especially noteworthy. In the meantime, the NC has won the town seats of Bhimbat, Padum, Thasgam, Yourbaltak, and Kargil. While an independent candidate won the Barsoo Constituency, the BJP has welcomed its victories in the Stakchay Khangral and Cha constituencies. The BJP had only been able to win one seat in the last LAHDC-Kargil elections, so its two-seat victory this time is an impressive accomplishment. Dharmendra Pradhan : Appearing For Class 10, 12 Board Exams Twice A Year Won’t Be Mandatory

NEW DELHI, Oct 8: According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, taking the Class 10 and 12 board exams twice a year would not be required of pupils, and the option is being offered to lessen stress brought on by the worry over missing out on a chance. Mr. Pradhan claimed in an interview with that the issue of "dummy schools" cannot be disregarded and that a serious conversation is now necessary. "Like the JEE engineering entrance test, students would have the option of taking the [Class 10 and 12 board] exams twice a year. They are free to select the highest score, but there will be no pressure to do so. "Students frequently feel stressed out because they believe they lost a year, missed their chance, or could have done better... According to Mr. Pradhan, the option is being introduced to lessen the stress brought on by the dread of missing a chance. "Any student may decide not to take the following tests if he feels fully prepared and satisfied with his performance on the first set of exams. Nothing will be required, he continued. Board exams will be given twice a year, in accordance with the New Curriculum Framework (NCF), which was introduced by the Ministry of Education in August, to give students the best chance to do well and retain the highest grade. The idea to have board exams twice a year has gotten strong feedback from students, according to Mr. Pradhan. "After the New Curriculum Framework [NCF] was declared, I met students. This has been acknowledged, and they approve of the concept. We are attempting to have the tests held twice a year beginning in 2024, he said. When questioned about the unprecedented number of student suicides in Kota, Rajasthan, the Minister responded, "It is a very delicate topic. No one should perish because those are our kids. Our shared duty is to make sure the students are not stressed. Every year, more than two lakh students relocate to Kota to study for competitive tests like the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical school entrance and the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for engineering. The number of suicides among students in Kota this year was 23, which is a record for the nation's coaching centre. The amount was 15 the previous year. The issue of "dummy schools" needs to be seriously discussed, according to Mr. Pradhan. "The problem cannot be disregarded. Even while the proportion of such students to all students is not particularly high... The moment has arrived for thoughtful debate and discussion on the issue, he remarked.The Minister stated that the Centre is working to eliminate the need for coaching for students. Many students who want to take the NEET or JEE enrol in schools in their native states before moving to Kota to attend coaching classes. They don't go to full-time schools; instead, they just show up for the board exams. Numerous experts have raised the topic of "dummy schools," arguing that absence from school prevents pupils from developing personally and makes them feel anxious and alone. When asked why there hadn't been a meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) in the previous three years, Mr. Pradhan responded, "CABE is being reconstituted.""The earlier CABE version was highly comprehensive... The requirements of today's educational system have changed. CABE needs to be redesigned at a time when the new National Education Policy is causing a paradigm shift. "At the end of the day, CABE will review what is being introduced now, whether it be new curriculum, new credit framework, accreditation, or any other reform," he stated. The Minister added that conversations are ongoing with a number of other nations who have showed interest and that two IITs, Delhi and Madras, are in various phases of establishing their offshore campuses.It is being coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs, and many possibilities and combinations are being discussed.…

Cong : Govt Forced Digitalisation In MGNREGA, Using It As Tool To Discourage Demand For Scheme

NEW DELH, Oct 7: On Saturday, the Congress said that the Narendra Modi administration "forced digitalization" in MGNREGA under the guise of transparency, using it as a tactic to deter people who actually needed the programme from applying for it. After a media report suggested that six months into the fiscal year, the major rural employment project, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), has run out of money, Congress national secretary Jairam Ramesh attacked the government.Ramesh said in a post on X that the MGNREGA budgeted amount of Rs. 60,000 crore for the entire year had been spent over the same six-month period while 48% of all vehicles sold in India between April and September of this fiscal year were SUVs. It also reflects the Modi government's aims, which Ramesh claimed are indirectly stifling demand for MGNREGA employment by excessively delaying salary payments. "This not only clearly indicates the deepening rural distress and rising inequality across the country, but also demonstrates the Modi government's priorities," he said.The Modi administration, he claimed, "has forced digitalization in the name of transparency, while actually using it as a tool to discourage demand for MGNREGA among those who genuinely need the programme." On the one hand, SUVs accounted for 48% of all vehicle sales in India during April to September 2023. On the other hand, the Rs. 60,000 crore allocated under MGNREGA for the year 2023–24 has already been used up in the first six months of this fiscal year.This not only shows very clearly... pic.twitter.com/HWxDgeZ1X0 — Jairam Ramesh on October 7, 2023 (@Jairam_Ramesh) By "inordinately delaying" the funding of social audits, the Centre was accused last week by the Congress of carrying out a "planned euthanasia" of MGNREGS. According to the Congress, this compromises the process, which the government uses to withhold funds to the states.
