JK administration actions indicate SC verdict on Art 370 might be against country’s interest: Mehbooba Mufti

ANANTNAG: Chief of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, stated on Saturday that the actions of the Jammu and Kashmir administration suggest that the Supreme Court may rule against the nation's interests in cases pertaining to Article 370 of the Constitution. "Since Friday night, we are witnessing that lists containing the names of the workers of different parties, especially the PDP, are being taken through police stations and it seems that such a decision is to come which is not in favour of this country and Jammu and Kashmir, but only to further the BJP's agenda and hence, some precautionary measures are being taken, which is unfortunate," Mufti said to reporters in Anantnag.She said that the supreme court should make sure that it upholds the integrity of the nation and its Constitution rather than advancing the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to Mufti, the court's ruling should make it abundantly evident that the BJP-led Centre's August 5, 2019, decision to repeal Article 370's provisions was "illegal, unconstitutional," and that it went against Jammu and Kashmir and the promises given to the local populace.Initially, it took a long time for the Supreme Court to hear the cases. It required five years. Then, in earlier rulings, the Supreme Court itself declared that no one, with the exception of the Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly, could repeal Article 370. The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir stated, "I believe the decision should be simple that whatever was done on August 5, 2019 was illegal, unconstitutional, against Jammu and Kashmir and the promises made to the people here." Govt Needs An Excuse To Put Us Under House Arrest, Claims Omar

Srinagar, Dec 9: Vice president of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, expressed concern on Saturday that mainstream politicians in Kashmir might be placed under house arrest prior to the Supreme Court's decision on Article 370 petitions, saying the government only needs a "justification" for it. He expressed his hope and prayer that the ruling will benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "They have the justification they need to place us under house arrest. They are in the same ignorance as we are regarding the outcome of the vote. When questioned about his opinions prior to Monday's verdict, Abdullah told reporters in the Kulgam district, "If they know, then there should be an investigation."Who will have the authority to declare what will happen? I can only hope and pray that the decision is in our favour, but neither I nor anyone else can claim that success will be ours or that it will be written in the judgement by those five honourable judges. I do not have access to any such machinery or method. We're waiting on the verdict; when it does, let's talk," he stated. The former chief minister responded that he doesn't respond to ifs and buts when asked about the NC's future course of action."Let the decision be made; we're not leaving this place." Then, we'll respond," he continued. In response to a follow-up inquiry concerning TMC MP Mahua Moitra's expulsion, Abdullah expressed his regret. Farooq (Abdullah) was present when Moitra spoke to the media following her expulsion. We send her our deepest sympathies and support. We lament that she was denied the opportunity to voice her opinions in the Parliament. This demonstrates that "might makes right." The BJP should keep in mind that they won't hold onto power forever, according to Omar.
