Centre needs to address the root cause of terrorism in J&K: Farooq

JAMMU: President of the National Conference Farooq Abdullah stated on Sunday that the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be won by the use of force, and he urged the Centre to look for solutions to deal with the underlying causes of the threat. According to the former chief minister, since terrorism is taking the lives of innocent people, the general public should also realise how pointless the ongoing violence is. Speaking with reporters outside of this book launch, Abdullah attacked the BJP for claiming that things are back to normal in Jammu and Kashmir"Promoting tourism or shouting for normalcy won't put an end to terrorism, which still exists. They were saying that the repeal of Article 370 (in 2019) put an end to terrorism, but after four years, it is still present and won't end until its underlying causes are identified, according to Abdullah. He was responding to the murder of retired police officer Mohd Shafi, who was shot dead by terrorists inside a mosque in his Gantmulla village in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir while delivering the "azan," or call to prayer. "I'm sorry the officer was killed. Those who are advocating for normalcy remain silent; instead of tackling the underlying issue, they attempted bandaging the wounds superficially. The common people need to realise that we are losing both officers and soldiers," Abdullah declared. The president of the National Conference stated that he is unable to comprehend how killing innocent people will benefit those who commit acts of violence. "To put an end to the carnage in Jammu and Kashmir, the central government needed to find the right approach. We have to find ways to stop terrorism instead of claiming normalcy or bringing up tourism, which is vulnerable in the face of terrorism, since we are, and always have been, a part of India," the speaker stated. According to him, using military or police force won't put an end to terrorism. "We have to go deeper and address the root cause to finish it off." Questioned about the increasing terror activity in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Abdullah said that this goes against the government's assertions that everything is 'honky-dory'. "Who are the people calling for normalcy? Propaganda won't accomplish anything because people are dying in this place. They need to come up with a solution, and Farooq Abdullah doesn't have a book that offers one," he remarked. When asked if he thought India and Pakistan should discuss the issue, Abdullah replied that the central government should make the final decision In a different interview with the media, Abdullah voiced his worries about the possible deaths of three civilians while in detention after five soldiers were killed in a mash in the Poonch area of Surankote. He added that winning the fight against terrorism depends on the support of the populace. Terrorists who had earlier attacked and murdered our brave soldiers also tortured and killed three locals. This is bad news because the fight is against terrorism, not internal problems. If we aggravate our people, we will never win this war," he said.  [caption id="attachment_7708" align="alignnone" width="300"] Centre needs to address the root cause of…

J&K Govt Announces Compensation And Jobs To Kin Of 3 Civilians Killed In Poonch

JAMMU, Dec 23: The family members of the three civilians who were discovered dead close to the scene of an anti-terrorist operation in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir were given jobs and compensation by the state government on Saturday. Jammu and Kashmir's political parties have claimed that the three men were among those taken into custody by the Army to be questioned in relation to the Thursday terrorist ambush that claimed the lives of five soldiers in the district. The men were discovered dead on Friday under suspicious circumstances. The Union Territory's Information and PR department posted on X, stating, "Three civilian deaths were reported yesterday in Baffliaz, Poonch District." The relevant authority has started legal action in this case after the medicolegal procedures were completed. The government has declared compensation for each person who passed away. Additionally, the government has declared appointments to be made compassionately to each deceased person's next of kin," the statement said. At a blind curve at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz on Thursday, two Army vehicles were ambushed by heavily armed terrorists, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and the injuries of two others. Following that, security personnel conducted a thorough cordon and search of the area. “Terrorism Started At The Moment Of Our Independence…”: EAM Takes Dig At Pakistan

Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Dec 23: The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, took a jab at Pakistan while arguing that India has struggled with countering cross-border terrorism since gaining independence. Jaishankar highlighted the significance of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist attacks in Mumbai on 26/11/11 as a turning point for Indian terrorism. After our independence, when so-called raiders arrived from all over Pakistan, terrorism began.Speaking to the media, Jaishankar stated, "I believe the Mumbai 26/11 was the tipping point for what has changed in this country today.The most crucial element in stopping cross-border terrorism, according to him, is responding to those who engage in it. Many were perplexed until they witnessed the actual, graphic, and significant phase of the 26/11 terrorist attacks. The first thing we must do now is counter. I am aware of those who claimed, "Well, we had a very cunning plan of turning the other cheek." That's not just the way the country feels, in my opinion. It doesn't seem to make sense to me. It doesn't seem strategic to me. The EAM continued, "If someone is engaging in cross-border terrorism, you have to act, you have to extract and impose a cost out there.Terrorism has long been a special problem for India, the EAM said earlier today at the third convocation of Rashtriya Raksha University in Lavad, Gandhinagar. Speaking to the media at Rashtriya Raksha University's third convocation in Lavad, Gandhinagar, Jaishankar said that terrorism has long been a major problem for India. He emphasised the changing dynamics influenced by technological advancements and expressed the continued commitment to delegitimize and combat terrorism.India has long had special difficulties as a result of terrorism. Our objective is to delegitimize it, and we will do whatever it takes to achieve that. In addition, Jaishankar said, "the world has seen that it is a domain that draws particular energy from technology and from technological advancements." The expansion of India's interests to support the security of others was mentioned by Jaishankar in his explanation of the intricate nature of counterterrorism initiatives. This could be more extensive, encompassing the Global South in sectors like energy, health, and finance, or it could just take the shape of direct neighbourhood support.Therefore, counterterrorism tests our imaginations as well as our capabilities. We must make an effort to contribute to others' security as our interests grow. This could be for a broader constituency like the Global South, or it could be for people in their immediate neighbourhood, or it could be in the form of financial, health, and energy support for them," he continued. Since Pakistan's formation, relations between India and it have never been normal. India has expressed concern over Pakistan's support for cross-border terrorism on multiple occasions and has stated that negotiations and terrorism are incompatible.Expelling India's ambassador to Islamabad and suspending bilateral trade followed the Indian government's August 2019 decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir's special status and divide it into two Union territories (J&K and Ladakh). At the time, Imran Khan led the Pakistani government. Terrorism on its death bed in Kashmir: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR: On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared that terrorism was dying in the valley and that the union territory's security situation had improved since Article 370 was repealed. The terror attack that occurred on Thursday in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of five soldiers and the injuries of two more, was also referred to by Sinha as "unfortunate". He accused "our neighbour" of trying to upset the tranquilly in the valley, seemingly referring to Pakistan. "This is a really regrettable occurrence. Such violence is condemned by us. Such actions by our neighbour have been disrupting the tranquilly in the valley. However, Sinha stated that it is all in vain because terrorism is dying in Kashmir."Since the abrogation of Article 370, the security situation has significantly improved," he said to reporters outside of an event hosted by the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce earlier today. As he addressed specific questions posed by the chamber's members, Sinha added, "The security situation in Kashmir is better than that in Bengal." But afterwards, when reporters questioned him about the remark, he added: " [caption id="attachment_7662" align="alignnone" width="300"] Terrorism on its death bed in Kashmir: LG Sinha[/caption]

“By suspending 150 MPs, govt muffled voices of 60 percent people of India”: Rahul

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, claimed on Friday that the government had silenced the voices of the people in their constituencies by suspending almost 150 opposition MPs from Parliament. The Congress leader cornered the Centre over "unemployment" while speaking at the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc protest here at Jantar Mantar against the mass suspension of opposition MPs. He claimed that earlier this month, the two young people who were unemployed and carrying smoke canisters jumped into the Lok Sabha. "We all witnessed two to three young people jump into the Parliament House a few days ago, and they proceeded inside to spread smoke." Each and every BJP MP fled. Initially, how did those individuals enter the Parliament building? They carried petrol cylinders inside. They could have brought anything if they could have brought that. The reason behind their protest is the second query. This was caused by unemployment. The nation is experiencing extreme unemployment. Today's youth in this nation cannot find work," he declared. On the anniversary of the terror attack on Parliament in 2001, there was a security breach. During Zero Hour, two individuals, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, leaped from the public gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, unleashed yellow gas from canisters and yelled anti-establishment slogans before being overpowered by the MPs.The security lapse case, which has dominated national political discourse ever since, resulted in the suspension of 146 Members of Parliament from the Winter Session of Parliament, which has been adjourned sine die, for causing a disturbance and interfering with the work of both Houses. Union Minister Amit Shah was being pressed by opposition lawmakers for a statement regarding the incident involving the breach of Parliament's security. The Congress leader continued by saying that a survey found that young people use social media apps for 7.30 hours every day. Rahul stated that in order to determine how many hours a day the nation's youth spend using their phones or social media, he hired surveyors to carry out a brief survey."After the survey, I was shocked to learn that youth spend 7.30 hours a day on social media apps," said Gandhi. In response to the mimicry controversy in the Rajya Sabha involving Jagdeep Dhankhar, he stated that Rahul Gandhi was filming the act and that the media didn't question the suspension of nearly 150 MPs. "The media claims that Rahul Gandhi recorded the video (of mimicry) while MPs were seated outside the Parliament. "Why and how 150 MPs were suspended is a question the media did not ask," he said. "These 150 individuals represent the voice of the Indian people; they are more than just individual people.You have not offended 150 people; rather, you have silenced 60% of India's population. Each member of parliament contributes lakhs of votes," he continued. Shashi Tharoor, a different Congress MP, stated that the demonstration at Jantar Mantar, which was organised under the banner "Save Democracy," was intended to convey to the public that the current state of affairs is "wrong for the future of the country." “Teachings Of Bhagavad Gita Should Reach All Parts Of India, World”: Shah

Kurukshetra (Haryana), Dec 22: The Bhagavad Gita's teachings ought to be spread throughout India and the rest of the world, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on Friday. Prime Minister Modi's wish for an annual International Gita Mahotsav was granted in 2016 by Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated during his speech at "Sant Sammelan 2023" in honour of Gita Jayanti Mahotsav. The Bhagavad Gita's teachings ought to be spread throughout India and the rest of the world. Since 2016, the Mahotsav has been an enormous success. Gita Jayanti Mahotsav has been effectively organised and accomplishing its goals for the past seven years," he continued.In Kurukshetra, Haryana, the International Gita Jayanti Mahotsav is in progress. Starting on December 7 and ending on December 24, the event will take place. People experience a moral and cultural upsurge when they celebrate Gita Mahotsav. Given that we are living in difficult times right now, it becomes even more pertinent. Enlightening people about the eternal and intangible legacy of Bhagavadgita—the song of the heavens—is the main goal of the Gita Jayanti celebration. Since 1989, the Haryana government has collaborated with the Kurukshetra Development Board to celebrate the Gita Mahotsav festival in Kurukshetra.In early 2016, the Haryana government decided to celebrate Gita Jayanti as an International Gita Mahotsav. Over two million people travelled to Kurukshetra, marking a significant milestone in the city's history of Gita Jayanti celebrations. Kurukshetra once more hosted the International Gita Mahotsav festival in the years 2017, 2018, and 2019.
