AHMEDABAD: A spy from Tarapur town in the Anand district was taken into custody by the Gujarat anti-terror team on Friday. He was a Pakistani native and had been providing Pakistani agencies with critical information. According to the ATS, military intelligence provided information about a Pakistani spy using an Indian SIM card to access WhatsApp. He was taking confidential data and infecting phones with malware. Born and raised in Pakistan, Labhshankar Maheshwari immigrated to India in 1999 and subsequently obtained Indian citizenship. His kin continues to reside in Pakistan. SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta today announced the opening of multiple IT Department competitions for UT residents in honour of the inaugural "UT Foundation Day," which is set for this month's 31st. In addition to Commissioner Secretary Prerna Puri of the IT and Information Departments, other officials in attendance included Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of School Education; Sheetal Nanda, Commissioner Secretary of Social Welfare; Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary of Youth Services & Sports; Anuradha Gupta, CEO of JaKeGA; SIO of NIC, and other relevant officers. Enrollment for the painting, photography, videography, and essay writing competitions with the theme "Badalta Jammu & Kashmir, Badhta Jammu & Kashmir- Amanaur Taraqqikinayi Tasveer" is open till the 28th of the current month.For both age groups above and below 18, there are monetary incentives of Rs 30,000 per category. Once at http://jk.mygov.in, the MyGov portal can be used to register. Additionally, the portal gives users the option to upload selfies until this month's 31st. The IT Department has created a unique frame just for the Foundation Day celebration. In order to receive an online certificate for the four years that J&K has been a UT, citizens are encouraged to take selfies with any changes that have occurred in their surroundings. Regarding the prizes, it was disclosed that the winners of each competition would receive cash rewards of Rs. 10,000 for first place, Rs. 8,000 for second place, and Rs. 5,000 for third place in both the age groups of 18 and under. Additionally, the Department will give two consolation awards of Rs 3500 to each citizen who competes in each category on UT Foundation Day. The Chief Secretary urged the officers to give as many citizens as possible the opportunity to participate in these events, including schoolchildren, athletes, the elderly, and other professionals or public servants.According to him, the remarkable change that has occurred over the last four years represents a shift in authority away from the Civil Secretariat's corridors and towards the people. He noted that this administration's hallmarks have been accountability and transparency in all of its actions. Dr. Mehta went on to say that by considering public feedback and integrating it into all government policies, the people have been put in charge. He stressed that everyone is personally aware of the revolutionary jump that has been made in both public infrastructure and G2C services. He urged people to take advantage of this chance to share their thoughts on the changes they have seen in this time. SRINAGAR: Authorities in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir stated today that they had attached the immovable property of a terrorist who was escaping from Noorpora hamlet in Awantipora on Friday as part of their ongoing campaign against terror groups. According to a police spokesman, Police Awantipora has attached the property of terror handler Feroz Ganie, son of Naber Ganie, which is spread over one kanal and fifteen marlas of orchard land, under Section 83 CrPC on the directions of the Additional Sessions Pulwama (NIA Court). Dr. Karan Singh : Political link between public and administration missing in J&K

JAMMU: Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh claimed on Friday that elections are the only way to restore the vital connection that Jammu and Kashmir's people have with their government. In order to resolve public issues, he also identified Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as the essential intermediary between the people and the administration. Singh argued in favour of holding the assembly elections, stating that until a government is established by popular vote, the issue in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be regarded as resolved. "MLAs act as a conduit between the public and the executive branch. According to him, J&K has not held an assembly for the past five years. "There is no political connection between the populace and the government. The management is going about its business. They are implementing fresh programmes. He stated, "The people are at their locations with a broken connection to the administration. The head of Congress emphasised that a strong opposition is necessary for a functioning democracy. "A democracy requires a robust opposition as well as a strong administration. It is not optimal to have one dominant force.After decades of Congress domination, the BJP is now in the driver's seat. It must be in balance," he declared. He stated that the opposition coalition INDIA was established with the intention of running a cohesive campaign in elections. "It will benefit the nation if they can accomplish that and grow stronger. There is no need to forecast whether they will win or not. Democracy benefits from a robust opposition, he continued. Regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, Singh assessed the circumstances as perilous. "While we thought wars were a thing of the past, Ukraine-Russia war and the Hamas-Israel conflict are a grim reality in our lifetime" , he stated. He argued that the best way to end the conflict is through a two-state solution and emphasised that the US must actively seek and carry out this strategy. NEW DELHI, Oct 19: Governor of the Reserve Bank of India Shaktikanta Das said on Friday that only Rs 10,000 crore worth of notes with a value of Rs 2,000 are still in circulation. He gave off the impression that these notes will also be put back or returned. There are barely 10,000 crore remaining in the system as Rs 2,000 notes start to return. He stated this on the fringes of the event: "It is anticipated that the sum will also return. Das had stated earlier in the month that 87% of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes that were taken out have been refunded as bank deposits, with the remaining amount being exchanged between counters.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which had introduced the Rs 2,000 note in 2016 as part of a swift remonetisation drive, surprised the financial community on May 19 when it announced its intention to phase it out.This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes would no longer be valid, taking out more than 88% of the money in use. The initial request was made to the public and entities holding these notes to exchange or deposit them in bank accounts by September 30. Later, the deadline was moved to October 7. Bank branches stopped offering exchange and deposit services on October 7. At 19 Reserve Bank of India sites, people have the option of exchanging the currency or having the equivalent amount credited to their bank accounts as of October 8. Up to a total of Rs 20,000 can be exchanged by individuals or organisations at any of the 19 RBI offices for Rs 2,000 in bank notes. Nonetheless, the total amount that can be credited to bank accounts in the form of Rs 2,000 notes is unlimited. BSF lodges protests with Pak Rangers over unprovoked cross-border firing along IB in Jammu

JAMMU: Two BSF troops were hurt in unprovoked cross-border firing at a forward station along the Indo-Pak border here, and as a result, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers have submitted a protest, according to officials on Friday. KISHTWAR : In the Kishtwar district on Friday, a car carrying three people went off the road and into a gorge, killing the occupants. Three people lost their lives in an accident with the Alto automobile (Jk06B-I909) this afternoon close to Kandni Kishtwar. They are Dhyan Singh of Gandho, Madan Lal of Sarror, and Rakesh Kumar of Badano Thatri. A police official confirmed it, stating that an investigation has been launched and a case has been filed. PM Flags Off First Train Of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Service, Takes Ride In ‘Namo Bharat’ Train

SAHIBABAD Oct 20: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rode aboard a "Namo Bharat" train that was operating on the 17-kilometer priority segment of the nation's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) track. To commemorate the opening of the RRTS in India, Modi waved the green flag to the train that ran between the Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations. Trains operating in this corridor have a 180 kmph top speed. At the RRTS station at Sahibabad, the prime minister unveiled a plaque to officially launch the priority section.According to a top National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) official, he also became the first individual to purchase a smart card utilising the UPI payment method in order to enter the concourse. An exhibition was also shown to Prime Minister Modi at the station. Following the flag-off of the first "Namo Bharat" train, Modi got on a train in Sahibabad and proceeded to travel by corridor. He had conversations with the train's crew and a few students while travelling. The NCRTC official stated, "During the flag off, many students from various Ghaziabad schools were present on the platform, and some other school students were present in the train which the prime minister boarded."There are five stations in the priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot: Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Sahibabad, and Duhai Depot. The section of the main corridor that leads from Duhai to Duhai Depot is called a spur. According to the official, Prime Minister Modi rode the priority section from Sahibabad to Guldhar and then returned to Sahibabad station, where he got off. When the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is finished, the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be somewhat less than one hour.At the opening ceremony of the Sahibabad station were Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Governor Anandiben Patel of Uttar Pradesh. October 21 will see the opening of India's first semi-high-speed regional rail service. The trains will include numerous passenger amenities and high-tech features. According to earlier statements from NCRTC officials, the services will start at 6 a.m. and last until 11 p.m.Constructed for the NCRTC's semi-high-speed regional rail service, the RRTS corridor is a collaborative effort between the Central government and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The first RRTS in India will be built between Delhi and Meerut, and its development will be managed by the NCRTC. By June 2025, the full 82.15 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is expected to be operational. Prime Minister Modi lay the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor on March 8, 2019.The RRTS project is being built in accordance with his goal to improve regional connections in the nation through the creation of new, world-class transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had stated in a statement on Wednesday. With a 180 kmph design speed, the RRTS is a brand-new, high-frequency, semi-high-speed rail-based commuter transport system. The PMO had stated that the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which is being created at a cost of more than Rs 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour by passing via the urban hubs of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.On the eve of the RRTS's opening, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri declared that the trains will be dubbed "Namo Bharat." SC dismisses PIL challenging restoration of Rahul LS membership

New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court denied a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that contested Congressleader Rahul Gandhi's reinstatement in the Lok Sabha and assessed the petitioner a fee of Rs 1 100,000.A court led by Justice BR Gavai declared that the petition constituted an abuse of the legal system because the petitioner's fundamental rights had not been infringed. Ashok Pandey, an advocate, filed a suit with the top court contesting Gandhi's reinstatement as a member. Gandhi's membership was reinstated by the Lok Sabha Secretariat following the Supreme Court's August 4 stay of his conviction in connection with a comment he made regarding the surname "Modi." The Congress leader was re-instated as Wayanad MP after being disqualified from the lower house in March 2023.
