World’s Highest Pangong ‘Frozen Lake’ Marathon conducted

LEH: The "World's Highest Frozen Lake Marathon," held in conjunction with the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon, saw a successful second edition. With assistance from the Indian Army's 14 Corps and the Union Territory of Ladakh Administration, the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh organised the marathon. There were 120 racers in two categories—the 21-kilometer and the 10-kilometer run—representing seven different nations. The event's chief guest, Ravinder Kumar, the administrative secretary of youth services and sports at UT Ladakh, was joined by Konchok Stanzin, councillor for the Chushul Constituency.The run's primary goals were to raise awareness of the Himalayan glaciers' rapid melting and to encourage winter travel to destinations like Changthang. Along with hosting the runners, many residents of the Pangong areas of Maan, Merak, Spangmik, and Phobrang took part in the event. On this day, they also presented a variety of cultural performances. According to the statement, the run was held at an elevation of 14,273 feet amid intense snowfall, with temperatures as low as -15. This officially gives us the confidence to name this as one of the world's hardest marathons. 9 Unexploded Shells Found In Ladakh

Leh, Feb 14: In Ladakh, nine unexploded shells were discovered and were demolished in a controlled explosion, an official reported on Wednesday. According to an official spokesman, Councillor Sonam Thardos informed the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) about the shells found in Chulitse Kulum in Kharu. He added that once the SDM brought up the issue with the Army's Trishul Division, its engineers made sure the shells were quickly disposed of in front of the local police. KARGIL: Following the recent snowfall, the Zojila Pass was once again open to cars. The District Administration, the Ladakh Police, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Project Vijayak and Beacon personnel, and the Union Territory Administration were all thanked for their well-coordinated efforts. The CEC expressed its gratitude to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for their unwavering commitment in working under challenging weather circumstances to clear the path for the reopening of this important pass. Despite the difficulties, 160 passengers have already crossed the Zojila axis in 10 vehicles from the Kargil-Sonamarg route and 27 vehicles from the Srinagar-Kargil route. LEH: An important meeting to review the "Action Taken Reports" related to the 31st meeting of the Northern Zonal Council (NZC) was headed by Dr. Pawan Kotwal, the administrative secretary of the Home Department and advisor to the lieutenant governor of UT Ladakh. The meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat in Leh. The meeting's objectives were to assess progress and plan for the future by focusing on a variety of themes, including social justice, rural development, and healthcare programmes. The primary focus was on hastening the examination and settlement of instances involving sexual offences against minors and women. In order to reduce pendency and guarantee prompt justice, Dr. Pawan Kotwal underlined the importance of the Fast Track Special Cases (FTSC) scheme's efficient execution.In addition, discussions encompassed the expansion of banking services and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanisms to rural regions, with a specific emphasis on the establishment of bank branches and postal banking facilities in 34 villages, as well as the complete digitization of all eligibility documents. It was thoroughly discussed how to strengthen agricultural infrastructure and healthcare provisions through the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY) and the adoption of Model Bye-Laws for new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), which allow them to undertake more than 25 economic activities. KARGIL: Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Leh Apex Body (LAB), two conglomerates representing various political, social, religious, and student organisations in Ladakh, called for a complete "Kargil bandh" and "Leh Chalo" on February 3 in support of their four demands, which include statehood for Ladakh, constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule, PSC for Ladakh, early job recruitment, and two separate parliament seats for Leh and Kargil. Meanwhile, a massive protest rally was held in Leh district of Ladakh union territory on Saturday.On February 3, LAB and KDA met in Kargil and Leh and declared a bandh throughout the Ladakh area. According to accounts, the Kargil district saw a full bandh, with all commercial establishments shuttered, private offices closed, and all vehicles off the road. Similarly, hundreds of people participated in a sizable protest march organised by Leh Apex Body in Leh. The two alliances have called on people to band together to fight for the establishment of a public service commission, job reservations for locals, early recruitment drives, statehood and special status under the sixth schedule of the Constitution, and separate representation for the districts of Leh and Kargil in Parliament. Sajjad Hussain Kargili, a member of the Kargil Democratic Alliance, stated that the protest call was made in favour of the four requests made by the Ladakh bodies. Kargili stated that the Ladakh people should be listened to by the government, and their requests should be promptly met. It is pertinent to note that the Ministry of Home Affairs has scheduled a meeting of the High Powered Committee for February 19 in Delhi to review the issues, coinciding with the protest call issued by the KDA and LAB.
