9 Rohingyas, One Bangladeshi National Booked For Illegally Staying In Doda

JAMMU, Dec 19: Police said on Tuesday that as part of a special effort to monitor the activities of foreign nationals, they have filed three First Information Reports (FIRs) against nine Rohingyas and one Bangladeshi national for obtaining Indian identity documents—such as domicile certificates, Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, PAN cards, and so on—illegally and for residing in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police provided details, saying that following a thorough and discrete investigation into the illegal stays of foreigners (Bangladesh and Rohingyas) at different points in this district, a case has been filed under applicable legal provisions against the accused individuals, who are all residents of Myanmar and include Raheela Begum, Shakeela Begum, Jahan Ara, Meem Bano, and Muskan Banoo.Similar to this, a case against Rohingyas and their facilitators—Zavaira Begum, Shabnam Begum, Noor Bhar, and Zeenat Begum—all Myanmar residents, has been filed at the Gandoh police station in accordance with pertinent legal provisions. "After a thorough investigation, it was determined that these Rohingyas had entered the Doda district and had obtained Indian identity documents illegally in order to reveal their identity as long-term residents of the Doda district," the police stated. Additionally, a case has been filed against Nusrat Jahan, a resident of Dhaka who is of Bangladeshi nationality, and her accomplices for obtaining Indian identity documents and overstaying or violating visa regulations. "Police carried out house searches as part of an ongoing investigation and found incriminating materials, which are seized as evidence," the police stated.It is important to note that an investigation into each of these cases has been started in order to identify the government workers and facilitators who gave these foreigners Indian identity documents and other assistance so that those responsible could be held accountable. SRINAGAR: Tuesday was the coldest night of the season in several parts of South Kashmir as temperatures dropped sharply throughout the area. All of these stations have once again recorded sub-zero temperatures, following an improvement in nighttime temperatures brought on by snowfall. The coldest night of the season was recorded at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius in Qazigund, South Kashmir, and 6.9 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. The capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the summer, Srinagar, recorded a low of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius. A low of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius has been recorded at the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg. Kokernag recorded a low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees. FIRs lodged against those providing shelter to Rohingyas in Jammu

JAMMU: According to police, seven FIRs have been filed at various police stations in this city against individuals who are allegedly involved in giving Rohingyas shelter and government benefits. This was announced on Tuesday. A police spokesperson stated that after searches at various locations in the Jammu district, the police stations Satwari, Trikuta Nagar, Bagh-e-Bahu, Channi Himmat, Nowabad, Domana, and Nagrota received the filed complaints. According to the official, formal complaints have been filed against individuals who are alleged to have given refuge to foreign nationals and assisted them in obtaining government assistance. According to the spokesperson, searches were carried out in front of magistrates at the facilitators' homes as well as at various locations where the Rohingyas are housed. The official claimed that during searches, unlawfully obtained Indian documents were found, including bank records, PAN cards, and Adhaar cards, among other pieces of evidence. "An investigation has begun, and more information will be released later. All such defaulters will face severe consequences in the future, the spokesperson declared. Following the discovery of unlawfully obtained documents, such as Adhaar cards, during a crackdown against Rohingyas in the district, police in the Kishtwar district filed a case the previous day. At police station Dachhan, the case was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 467 (forgery of important documents), 468 (forgery with the intent to deceive), 471 (using a forged document as genuine), and 420 (cheating). The Rohingyas are a Muslim minority from Myanmar who speak Bengali dialect. Many Rohingyas fled persecution in their home country and sought safety in Jammu and other parts of India by entering the nation illegally through Bangladesh. Government data indicates that over 13,700 foreigners, comprising of Rohingya Muslims and citizens of Bangladesh, have made their home in Jammu and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Between 2008 and 2016, the number of foreigners in these areas increased by more than 6,000. During a verification drive earlier in March 2021, police discovered over 250 Rohingyas—including women and children—living illegally in Jammu city. They were then placed in a holding centre inside Sub-jail Kathua. Terrorism considered ‘dirty word’ in J&K: CRPF

SRINAGAR: According to a senior CRPF officer, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is now viewed as a "dirty word" rather than a current fashion. "The most important thing for us to realise is that, in the current context, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is a dirty word; it is no longer trendy. ADG Nalin Prabhat of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told reporters at Shopian that's why "they (terrorists) will be finished." According to the senior official, the moment a terrorist joins a terror group, he signs his own death warrant. "Anyone who joins a terrorist organisation or turns terrorist signs their own death warrant. The nation, the people, and God are all with us, so they (the terrorists) will perish," he continued.No matter how many ultras were active, according to Prabhat, they would all suffer the same fate. "How is the number of them relevant? Any number of them—two, twenty, or fifty—will be squandered. An icon cannot be a terrorist. The real icons are the children who grow up to be athletes, physicians, and engineers," he continued. JAMMU: In a session held here today, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo oversaw a discussion with representatives and attendees from several Trade Bodies and Industry Associations in Jammu and Kashmir. Principal Secretary of Finance, Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, MD JKTPO, MD Handloom & Handicrafts, MD SIDCO, MD SICOP, MD AGRO, and other important stakeholders were also present at the interaction. Heads and delegates from various trade bodies and business associations addressed the Chief Secretary on a range of topics throughout the conversation. A number of topics were covered, including the extension of lease agreements, validity periods, GST revisions, power amnesty, turn-over incentives, marketing of tourist destinations in Jammu Division, incentives for local industries, guaranteeing a steady supply of electricity, the timely disposal of NoCs, the development of industrial estates with infrastructure, export-focused incentives for the handicraft sector, skill development, and the complete operationalization of the single window mechanism. Back-to-back 5 earthquakes strike J&K and Ladakh

JAMMU: Within an hour on Monday, five consecutive moderate-intensity earthquakes struck Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, according to officials. There were no reports of fatalities or property damage. According to the National Centre for Seismology, which keeps track of earthquake activity throughout the nation, at approximately 3:48 PM, J&K and Ladakh were struck by the first earthquake, which had a Richter Scale magnitude of 5.5. The location of the earthquake was 33.41 latitude, 76.70 longitude. Its centre was 10 kilometres below the surface in the Kargil area of Ladakh's union territory. Thirteen minutes later, the area was struck by another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8, again with its epicentre in Kargil.Ten kilometres below the surface was the epicentre. A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter Scale occurred about the same time, with its epicentre in the Kishtwar region of J&K. At approximately 4:18 p.m., J&K was struck by the fourth earthquake, which had an epicentre in Kishtwar and a Richter Scale of 3.6. "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 18-12-2023, 16:18:08 IST, Lat: 33.37 & Long: 76.57, Depth: 10 Km, Region: Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir," the NCS stated in a post on X regarding the fourth earthquake. At 4:44 p.m., a 3.4-magnitude earthquake with its epicentre at Kargil shook the Union territories. JAMMU: According to officials, the police started the process of cancelling the registration of 1,378 cars that were involved in illicit mining operations in the Jammu district on Monday. 1,378 multiple vehicles involved in these illegal operations have been seized by the police as a result of their decisive action against illegal mining activities, they said. According to an officer, the relevant department has started the process of cancelling the registration of any vehicles linked to these unlawful mining operations. He continued by saying that it was discovered that the seized cars were actively engaged in illicit mining operations, flouting environmental laws and endangering the surrounding ecosystem severely.Under Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vinod Kumar, "illegal mining will not be tolerated as a means of exploitation of our natural resources." According to him, the police's actions are intended to stop these illegal activities and discourage people from taking part in activities that endanger public safety and the environment. Declaring that the Jammu Police is making every effort to look into and stop these illegal operations, the SSP threatened to cancel the registration of any cars whose owners or operators were found to be involved in illegal mining activities. "Swift and stringent measures are being undertaken to ensure that vehicles involved in illegal mining are promptly removed from circulation, reinforcing the commitment to preserving the environment and upholding legal norms," he stated.
