Groom, his father booked for failing to turn up on reception

SRINAGAR: Due to their absence from the wedding last week, the groom and his father were detained by police on Tuesday in the Awantipora neighbourhood in south Kashmir. The reception was set to take place on September 16 in Kandizal village, which is 2 km from Awantipora town, according to the bride's family. The bride's family, on the other hand, filed a police station complaint against the groom and his family after they decided not to attend. In response to the complaint, police detained the groom and his father on Tuesday."Residents of Kandizal Awantipora stated that their wedding reception was scheduled on September 16, 2023, with Fayaz Ahmad Dar, after performing the Nikah earlier," a police spokesperson said in a statement. "Police Station Awantipora received a written complaint from one Shazia Akhter against Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his father Mohammad Shahban Dar son of Gh. Qadir Dar." According to the statement, the groom's family cancelled the celebration at the last minute under the pretence that he had fled and would not attend by disputing the Nikah that had been performed previously. "Upon receiving this information, Police took cognizance of the situation and filed FIR No. 182/2023 against the groom and his father in Police Station Awantipora in accordance with the applicable legal provisions. Both have since been placed under arrest. The police statement stated that additional investigation into the situation was ongoing. ADGP Mukesh Singh appointed ITBP IG for 5 years

JAMMU: According to the Union Home Ministry, Jammu Zone additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh was appointed as the Inspector General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on a temporary basis on Tuesday. The appointment of Singh, an IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre and a member of the 1996 batch, will last for five years from the time he assumes responsibility or until further orders, whichever comes first, according to the order. On August 14, 2019, Singh was appointed the new Inspector General of Police for the Jammu Zone. On January 20, 2021, Singh received a promotion to the position of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). According to Sanjeev Kumar, assistant secretary for home affairs at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ADGP of Jammu was appointed as the IG of the ITBP on a temporary basis. Kumar requested that the officer be promptly relieved so that he may begin his new responsibilities at the centre. SRINAGAR: Today, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over a conference to assess the district of Ganderbal's development status. The Lt. Governor assessed current projects and the rollout of Central and UT Schemes in the Ganderbal District. The Lt Governor noted that private parties are important participants in any region's economic development. He requested that the district administration help potential investors by way of the Industry Help Centre and help locals build up cold storage facilities. The Lt. Governor gave the officials instructions to make sure that the district's youth are involved in the government's self-employment and livelihood creation plans and programmes in light of the developments under various youth-oriented and employment generation programmes.He suggested that a thorough district employment plan be put into action. For the local population to experience economic progress, the tourism industry is crucial. The Lt Governor suggested that every option be looked into in order to make Sonamarg accessible to tourists all year long. According to him, a major aspect in restoring prosperity to agricultural families' lives will be the efficient implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme and promotion of cooperatives. Ganderbal, Sep 19 : Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, stated on Tuesday that a "major recruitment drive" will be conducted within the next six months to fill all open positions in the various government ministries. Speaking to a crowd in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district after officially opening and laying the cornerstones for a number of development projects, the LG noted that the UT administration had launched a recruitment drive the previous year, and hundreds of young people had been hired using a fair process. The speaker added, "Let me announce here that all the vacant posts in various government departments will be filled within the next six months through a proper recruitment drive," adding that "poor man's child also has a right to become an officer."The LG said that a vegetable vendor's daughter just joined the KAS. "She told me when we first spoke that she never saw herself as an officer. I reassured her that children of poor people had the same rights as children of rich people, he said. The LG attacked regional parties, claiming that "some party's looted the State exchequer, built enormous villas in foreign countries, and left the common of J&K suffer." The LG claimed that these people "can't handle peace" and that they keep hatching plans to incite and mislead people under various pretexts.He claimed that inhabitants of the Ganderbal district received 2800 Awas through the Prime Minister Awas Yojna Scheme. "Let me be clear: No non-J&K resident in the Ganderbal district has received an Awas. However, the LG claimed that some people are plotting to hinder the move because they find it insulting to witness a poor man build their homes. According to the LG, the days of establishments like schools collapsing at the direction of Pakistan or "its stooges here" were long gone. J&K is progressing towards prosperity and peace. He asserted that people are satisfied and enjoying nightlife.He said that 1.88 billion visitors visited J&K in 2017. SRINAGAR : National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that the party is not opposed to the Women Reservation Bill and has no issues if it is put into effect. When did we oppose women's reservations? It was put into practise by us personally in panchayats and other places. We support women's rights because they make up 50% of our population and should have the opportunity to serve as elected officials. Abdullah told reporters in Budgam, "We don't oppose to this. Srinagar, Sept 19: Tuesday marked the seventh day of one of Jammu and Kashmir's longest anti-militancy operations, which has seen three officers and a soldier die, as security forces combed through the deep woodlands of Gadole in the Kashmir Valley's Anantnag district. On Monday, two bodies were discovered in the nearby forest. One of them was Pradeep, the soldier who was murdered by terrorists last Wednesday. Officials stated that the identity of the other has not yet been determined. For the past four days, police officials have remained silent about the operation. They think there are two or three terrorists imprisoned in the forest.The operation got off on Wednesday when terrorists murdered Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Colonel Manpreet Singh, commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles. DC forewarns strict action against unfair practices in ration supply

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya met with representatives from the department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today to examine the state of ration supply and distribution in the district. During the meeting, Assistant Directors, TSOs, and Inspectors were present. The DC stressed important aspects of the ration supply chain during the meeting, such as the demand for prompt distribution, the exclusive use of electronic weighing devices, biometric verification, issuing purchase receipts, getting rid of manual paperwork, and vigorously implementing the One Nation One Ration Card initiative. The DC stressed the importance of the ration distribution process for the general population while examining each phase in detail. The DC went over each beneficiary category's status, including AAY, PHH, and NPHH. Regarding accusations of unfair practises such theft, adulteration, and underweighing, the DC expressed grave concern. Kashmiri journalist Majid Hyderi booked under stringent PSA

SRINAGAR:Majid Hyderi, a journalist and political analyst, has been booked under the strict Public Safety Act (PSA), according to officials. Majid Hyderi was detained last week by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and extortion. According to them, Hyderi has been arrested under the PSA and is being held at the Kot Balwal jail in the UT's Jammu region. Hyderi, a local of the Peerbagh neighbourhood of the city, was detained late on Thursday night after police reported him in accordance with a court's directive. "FIR number 88/2023 under sections 120B, 177, 386 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Sadder police station on the basis of an order issued by the JMIC court in Srinagar," police said on X.Police stated that he was detained on suspicion of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, extortion, providing false information, defamation, and other offences. The journalist and political pundit who frequently appeared on television news channels was granted bail on Saturday but was then detained again the next day for a different offence. Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of J&K and vice president of the National Conference, referred to Hyderi's PSA arrest as extremely upsetting. The reports of #MajidHyderi's PSA imprisonment are quite upsetting. If true, this is again another example of how the current J&K administration is intolerant of any criticism. In a post on X, Abdullah said, "I don't think there is very much he and I would ever agree on because we are ideologically poles apart, but this reported detention and shift to a jail in Jammu is cruel & unnecessary."
