Driver died, 6 injured in Qazigund accident

Qazigund, Sep 22 : An accident at the Levdora region of Qazigund along the Jammu-Srinagar route in the Kulgam district resulted in the death of the driver and the injuries of six family members. An official reported that a truck travelling close to the walnut factory in Qazigund collided with a vehicle with the registration number (JK06B 0901), which was travelling from Srinagar. All seven of the Echo vehicle's occupants suffered significant injuries as a result of the collision, and they were all quickly transported to the Emergency Hospital in Qazigund for treatment, he said. One of them, a driver named Maroof Ahmad Bhat, the son of Doda resident Niyaz Ahmad Bhat, passed away at the hospital, he said. He named the injured as Doda residents Mohammad Abdullah's son Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Mohammad Niyaz Bhat, Mumtaz Ahmad Bhat, Mubeena Begum, Niyaz Ahmad Bhat's wife, Mehvish Akhter, Maroof Mumtaz Bhat, and Absha Banoo, all of whom are also descendants of Ghulam Qadir Bhat.A complaint has been filed at the Qazigund Police Station under FIR number 206/23 under sections 279 and 337 of the IPC, and additional investigation has begun, according to an officer. SRINAGAR: Following the repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution in 2019, political parties in Kashmir on Friday hailed the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head of the Hurriyat Conference, from his more than four years of house detention. Vice-President of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, expressed optimism that the Mirwaiz will be permitted to move around freely, engage in social interactions, and pick up his previous social and religious obligations. CS reviews measures being taken to prevent dengue and status of ongoing smart city projects in Jammu

JAMMU: In order to stop the spread of dengue fever in Jammu division, the Health Department and municipal organisations are taking preventive measures, as reviewed by Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta today. Principal Secretary, H&UDD, Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Commissioner, JMC, Deputy Commissioner, Director of Health, Principal, GMC, Jammu, and other important personnel were present at the meeting. He was informed by Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary, H&ME, about the present state of dengue cases in the division. According to the Secretary, as of this time, 1295 people have tested positive for dengue, with 1 confirmed death and 428 patients receiving treatment at various medical facilities.The public was also made aware that, even though the situation is not alarming right now, the health department is fully prepared and keeping a strict eye out for any hotspots, with more than 11140 samples having been tested so far for diseases spread by mosquitoes. Additionally, the Helpline 108 (toll-free), which is operational, was informed that it was offering medical advice to any callers. The Chief Secretary assessed how prepared each department was to handle dengue cases, including district administration, and ordered the adoption of a three-pronged strategy that included IEC Campaigns to raise awareness of preventive measures, IEC Campaigns to raise awareness of symptoms and make access to medical care simple, and IEC Campaigns to contain the disease by taking steps like fumigation to stop the spread of dengue.Dr. Mehta ordered the interlinking of several hotline numbers so that individuals can be led to the appropriate helpline from any helpline number they contact in order to ensure that patients and citizens receive medical assistance quickly and without fuss. The Chief Secretary then went through the status of the ongoing projects in Jammu's Smart City Project. On the eve of the forthcoming Gandhi Jayanti, the CEO of Jammu Smart City updated him on the progress of key projects and significant initiatives. Dr. Mehta gave instructions for the swift implementation of the numerous projects so that Jammu's residents may see a significant improvement in the city's aesthetic and practical experience. Man arrested for ‘promoting’ terror activities on social media in Pulwama: JKP

PULWAMA: According to police, a guy was detained in the Pulwama area of Jammu & Kashmir for allegedly inciting the public and supporting terrorist actions online. An arrest of a social media user who was inciting the public and supporting terrorist actions was made by police in Pulwama as part of their impressive response to anti-national acts, according to a police spokeswoman. A guy who was uploading videos and images of terrorists killed in the Kokernag encounter while operating a false social media account under the name "Pulwama News" has come to light, the official added. In the seven-day shootout in the Gadore woodland region of Kokernag in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir, two terrorists were killed along with four security forces members, including a colonel, a major, and a deputy superintendent of police. The spokesperson claimed that "this account was created to promote the terrorists' activities and sow fear among the populace, posing a serious threat to the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the country." As a result, he said, a case was filed and an investigation was started. Ashiq Ahmed Khan, a resident of Niloora Khan Mohalla, was detained for engaging in such illegal acts during the course of the investigation. World’s Largest Cedar Tree Found In J&K’s Doda: Officials

BHADERWAH, Sep 21: The largest and possibly oldest Cedar tree in the world, according to forest officials, was discovered in Chanti Bala in the Bhalessa forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda region. It has a 54-foot trunk and a 35-foot breast diameter. The Panchayat Raj Institution (PRI) members urged that the location be added to a tourism map, while the officials wanted the Cedar tree's position to be listed as a heritage site. The gigantic tree, which is thought to be centuries old and is situated on the eastern hill of Gandoh tehsil's Chanti-Bala Panchayat, 124 km from Doda town, has religious importance for followers of the Nag and has been revered by the community for ages.Because of its enormous size, the tree, which was surrounded by a dense coniferous forest, was clearly different and was discovered by the field workers, Divisional Forest Officer Bhaderwah Chander Shekhar said at the site. The Deodar, commonly known as a cedar, has a trunk diameter of 54 feet and a breast size of 35 feet, according to the scientific method for estimating a tree's size. This is the largest tree of this kind (Cedrus Deodara) in the world, and based on our research and the data we have gathered, it also appears to be the oldest," he said. Shekhar stated that the Forest Survey of India would be consulted by the government to determine the exact age of the object.According to the forest official, "we have adopted the procedure so that this will be declared as a heritage site for its unique size," adding that "once the tree is declared heritage, people from all over the world will start visiting here to see this unique tree that gives off a nostalgic feeling due to its size." Constitution cannot be amended so easily: Omar

SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC), stated here on Thursday that any attempt to fiddle with the Constitution would not be helpful for the nation since it cannot be changed so quickly. In answer to a reporter's inquiry, he made these comments regarding the Congress's claim that the words "socialist" and "secular" had been removed from the Preamble of the Constitution. The Constitution is not easily amendable. Obtaining a two-thirds majority is necessary to amend the Constitution. As far as I'm aware, neither the Lok Sabha nor the Rajya Sabha have held a vote to eliminate such phrases, Abdullah told reporters in the Handwara neighbourhood of the Kupwara region in north Kashmir. He claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power, circulated copies of the original Constitution among its members as proof that the occasion of shifting parliamentary proceedings from the old building to the new one was significant. If that is accurate, then we have no issues. We have always maintained that if Jammu and Kashmir joined India, it joined Mahatma Gandhi's country, not the country of the RSS or Sangh Parivar,'' the NC leader added. However, if they are tampering with the Constitution, then, pardon me, it will not be beneficial for the nation. When asked if his party had high hopes for the Supreme Court's decision on a group of petitions contesting the repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution, Abdullah responded that the NC had done everything it could and that "we are hopeful of (getting) justice." In response to reports that 80 percent of Jammu and Kashmir's residents are satisfied with the current form of government, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha replied, "Let the Assembly elections be held to see if that is the case." Border resident arrested by J&K ANTF with 3.5 kg of heroin

Jammu, Sep 21: A senior official of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) stated here on Thursday that a border resident had been detained along with 3.5 kilos of heroin valued at roughly Rs 7 crore. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (ANTF) Raj Kumar, Zaheer Ahmad, a native of the Keran sector of the Kupwara district in north Kashmir, was apprehended based on specific information from the Gangbug neighbourhood of Srinagar. "The narcotic smuggler's arrest and the seizure of commercial quantities of heroin from his possession is a big success for the ANTF," the officer said, adding that a FIR had been filed and that additional research to uncover the arrested smuggler's backward and forward connections was ongoing.He stated that most heroin is smuggled from the other side of the border and that "we are looking into details how the consignment reached this side - whether it was smuggled or airdropped through a drone." He added that it is under investigation whether the crime is connected to narco-terrorism and that additional arrests are anticipated in the case as the inquiry moves forward. According to Kumar, this year the ANTF filed 15 FIRs, the majority of which involved the seizure of large amounts of illegal drugs from various Union Territory locations. Arrests of the accused were also made outside of J-K, in places like Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and Delhi."The assets and properties that the smugglers raised are being located and seized. Police Arrests KPS Officer Sheikh Adil In Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Sep 21: A Jammu and Kashmir Police officer with the DySP rank was detained by Srinagar Police on Thursday for a number of reasons. On Tuesday, a group of Srinagar police officers searched the home of a DySP known as Sheikh Aadil Mushtaq (KPS) close to the BSNL Sanathnagar Srinagar exchange. Several electronic gadgets, including a laptop, were seized, and the officer was questioned about a case, if sources are to be believed. The officer was formally detained on Thursday by Srinagar police under FIR no. 149 of 2023 for violating sections 167, 193, 201, 210, 218, and 221 of the Indian Penal Code and section 7 A of the Corruption Act.
